View Full Version : Do you think it would be a good idea to start Neal?

And bring RJ off the bench?

Neal has a better offensive game, is a pretty good decision maker on the court, and plays better defense?

No.

No.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing Neal get more time at the back-up 2, instead of Georgie.

Negative. 3rd quarter of Game 4 should've been a pretty good indicator of how well wholesale roster changes on the fly work out.

RJ is a pussy. The fact that he was once a 20 ppg scorer and was amongst the league leaders in FTAs because he attacked the rim so relentlessly, completely baffles me. I dont know how a player whos entire being is full of pussy was able to accomplish those two things.

Id start Neal tbh.

While +/- never tells the whole story about a player, four games into this series, Gary Neal is -34 for the series. He was -16 in Game 1, -8 in Game 3, and -8 in the time that he got in Game 4.

If you're thinking about starting him, the one justification I can see is that at least then you're not pairing him with George Hill, who is now -32 in the series.

By way of comparison:

McDyess is -2
Jefferson is -8
Parker is -4
Duncan is -10
Bonner is -20
Blair is +12
Ginobili is +16
Splitter is -14

Gary takes bad shots, those fall in the regular season but postseason is a whole different story. We already got Manu taking shit shot after shity shot, no need to put gary in.

I wouldn't start him, but I wouldn't mind if RJ played less. For that matter, Bonner as well.
Neal got called for trying to take charges, which resulted in a few and 1's. But he tried. I can't tell if what Bonner and RJ are doing is trying.

I'd like to see the Big 3 plus Splitter and Hill more and I need for Hill to keep his eyes open. It's rare that he passes to Splitter.

I'd start neal but I've been thinking maybe Pop should try Manu off the bench together with splitter. I really think we need rj to get going so maybe more touches for rj would help him. And getting tony's jumper going right off the bat would be good.

the way i see it, if the team builds a good lead like last night, you put in neal and let him go crazy chucking up shots to get him going....then sub back in the starters when lead is no more...

The Spurs have struggled sooooo bad offensively at the start of third quarter the last two games. I think Neal could make a couple of shots to jump start the offense in the third. Those 3rd quarter droughts are killer.

Neal's role is to hit 3s

Finley & Mason Jr hit these kind of shots sometimes but they aren't a big help on the court.Sure Neal is better than an old Finley or Mason. But I don't know if I want a bigger role for him than he actually has.

He hurts the team when he's in KB24 mode like he does sometimes. He's small to play SFs.He can't play defense...

Neal is what he is.Don't ask him anymore.

It wouldn't be too bad of an Idea startin him over rj...I've beeen sayyn it all serriess long. Who. Hasn't neal been gettin more playin time becuz all yea neal has been a real big boost offensively. Nd thas what we've been missing..or still startin rj but jus give neal more minutes...either way we need him in the. Game if were gnna win this series

It's a horrible idea. Neal would get posted up every play and foul out of the game. Battier, Mayo and Young would eat him for lunch.

Neal is a cold blooded shooter and he hit a clutch big boy shot, but let's not get carried away here.

I think Neal could start in place of RJ if we had more backup at the PG spot.

Parker
Manu
Neal

Those are our three best ball handlers in the starting lineup. Hill seems to need a "helper" PG when he's on the court.

We should start Quinn.

In all seriousness, he just needs more minutes. No Start.

No no no. Just because of his ice cold shot last night doesn't mean he's instantly an All-Star.

No, I love Neal, but he doesn't have the size or atheltism to deal with opposing sf's consistently, he's a shooting guard. He's better facing opposing team's scrubs.

I have a better idea. When Memphis has the ball, Pop should just have Duncan and McDyess stay near the goal on the offensive side and not come back on defense. So, Gasol and Randolph also have to stay back to cover them. That way, we keep their bigs from killing us inside. But Duncan and McDyess need to remember to not park in the lane because of the three second rule.
