Gallup: Tea party negative ratings at record high

Gallup polling released new survey results on Friday, showing that negative opinions of the so-called tea party movement have risen sharply in the US. Independent voters have turned away from the conservative group.

The poll shows that only a core constituency of Republicans and conservatives now view the fledgling political movement positively.

The organization began tracking the tea party just over a year ago in March of 2010. At that time, the ultra conservative group had a 37% favorable and 40% unfavorable rating.

Those numbers stayed flat until January of this year when the first round of tea party supporting legislators were sworn in to the U.S. Congress.

According to Gallup, "The April 20-23 USA Today/Gallup poll finds favorable opinions of the Tea Party movement dropping to 33%, from 39% in January, and unfavorable opinions rising to 47% from 42%."

Faux populism has no legs. Barring another economic debacle a la 2008, we've probably seen the high-water mark of the Tea Party.

As a middle of the road conservative I think I have seen the tea party overstep it's initial popular appeal of advocating fiscal responsibility and smaller government to wade right into the swamp of social issues like abortion...they should have kept it simple and focused.

"fiscal responsibility and smaller government"

code words hiding the VRWC strategy of neutering govt so the VRWC can rape and pillage unimpeded. tea baggers are astro-turfers at best, stupid dupes at worst.

Boutons is the dummy here, dummy. the VRWC hijacked the growing discontent with government and its current ineffectiveness aka the Tea Party, turned everyone against it, therefore containing the threat of revolution by making people feel content with our current choices when paired against the possibility of crazy white people controlling the US aka the VRWC's version of the Tea Party.

now or earlier, or ever.

When they trash govt for the stimulus and bailout of financial sector without trashing the criminal financial sector, they showed their hand. They're financed by the VRWC to trash/starve govt so the VRWC has even less courntervailing power against its predations and crimes.

The very beginning of the tea party was mainly socially liberal, but once the News began the smear campaign they attracted social bubbas to the movement. It's a shame, left idiots could have helped overtake the neocons.

Hardly. This was just the first wave. Nothing is going to get better. The country is still going bankrupt. The country is still pissing away borrowed billions of dollars every single hour of every single day. The have nots are increasing; benefits are increasing. No problems have been solved.

"country is still going bankrupt"

No, it's not. The deficit panic is a TOTAL LIE. The debt needs to come down long term. The bond market is perfectly unPANICKED about the debt, no matter what the Wall St enablers at the ratings agencies threaten Human-Americans with.

Short term, the real panic, that DC is simply ignoring, is jobs and the consumerism that jobs fuel, and the tax revenues on jobs and spending.
