I disagree. Kobe is still on top of his game and is still worth that KT. TD? Not so much. Even in his 15th year, it can be legitimately argued that Kobe is still the best SG in the game. Can you say the same about TD at PF? No you can't. TD is lucky NBA doesn't employ NFL type KTs, tbh.

I hear what you are saying though.

Will he still be on top of his game at 35? Hell fucking no.

You say that why - because he doesn't dunk 10 times a game like D-Whistle? Kobe's jumper is going NOWHERE fast. As long as he has that jumper and the Lakers have a strong inside game, he can continue to put up numbers and close games/series for the Lakers. This alone makes him worth his KT.

Oh, and at 35, Bynum will be 26 and in his prime (if D12 is not in P&G). In either case, Bynum or D12 will be option #1 in the offense. Kobe's jumper will still be wet enough to provide spacing for either of them to do damage down low.

Watch how he gets blown by defenders as more often as compared to before. It's not all about the hops. Lateral movement, first-step explosion, etc. Since you brought about hops, surely Okafor and Landry can certify that he still has mad hops

JamStone
04-30-2011, 03:01 PM
My understanding is that Duncan can retire and the Spurs organization can choose to pay him his salary even if he does choose to retire. He only forgoes his salary if he files retirement with the league. I'm pretty sure the Pacers did this the year after Reggie Miller retired, granted it was something like $8 million, not $20 million.

As for Kobe being on top of his game, that's horse shit. He's definitely on his decline. And the difference between him and Duncan is that Duncan only has one year left on his contract, and Kobe has three years and $82+ million left on his. Doubt he'll be on "top of his game" in 3 years and he'll be making considerably more than Duncan will be next season.

If Duncan is a class act he will retire without any pay. Time for San Antonio to look to the future and Duncan shouldn't waste 21 million of their salary cap.

Kobe is not at the peak of his prime ....no shame in admitting that. But he still got enough to bury, Paul (check), dirk (soon), durant (next) and the either (Pierce, Wade or Rose).

How many rings does Malone have? Right. Well he had more desire to play for something since he didn't have it. Timmy just doesn't seem as focused the last few years; he's content with his career.

which shows Tim's lack of character and selfishness. its either one of two things Spurs fans, you can't have your cake and eat it too sons. either admit that the man has no respect for the type of money that he makes because otherwise he would be playing better or admit that he simply just doesn't have what it takes to play NBA basketball as a starter anymore. personally I think he just doesn't have it anymore. sure he is still a solid backup bench option, but over the last few years he has been nothing more than a glorified Greg Ostertag.

Even if West was a better player and was better for the team, you should realize after all this time on this forum that Pop goes with vets (and "corporate knowledge") over talent, even when he shouldn't. So you are wrong in whatever context you choose to use that argument.
