Unless Nuggets were trying to dump salary not sure why they make that deal

Parker: 17.5 pts, 6.6 assists, 3.1 boards, 1.2 steals, 2.6 tov
Felton w/Knicks: 17.1 pts, 9.0 assists, 3.6 boards, 1.8 steals, 3.3 tov

Not worth a 2 for 1, especially involving a player of value like Harrington

Wow. I guess I should have checked Felton. Had no idea his stats were that decent. But I woudl think Parkers stats would be a lot better on the Nuggets as well. Surely he'd average over 20 pts per game.

But I'd trade Parker for Harrington straight up if it was possible.

Is your mom or dad set to pay Nene if he opts out of the last year of his contract for $12 million? Seems to me he won't be joining the Spurs if opting out means taking a $10 million dollar pay cut. Use your brain. The Spurs can barely afford slop on a stick. Thank you RJ. These scenarios are getting dumber by the day. I never realized a first round exit by the Spurs actually kills brain cells.

Do you think the Spurs are the only interested party in Nene. When it comes to trades or free agent signings, if there are multiple suiters, the spurs rarely get the player. Its nice of you to include Matt Bonner in another trade. What makes you think every team in the league is jumping at the bit to take our filth? The Spurs couldn't give Bonner away.

So do you actually think that there is no team that would love to have Bonner stretching the floor for them as a back-up situational player? Let's be honest, he was the number one 3 point shooter in the league, teams tend to strive for a good sharpshooter.

I'm aware that the Spurs aren't always the most desirable suitors for a player. But I think in this case, Nene might be interested.

Well, if he's so good at his job, why wouldn't the Spurs want to keep him? Let's be honest, he's a nightmare on the defensive end and the other 29 teams in the league try to exploit him in every way possible. Do you really think the 6 or 7 points he might bring to one's offense outweighs the 15 to 20 he'll give up on the defensive end? That goes double for a team contending for a playoff spot. Bonners deficiencies outweigh his assets by a country mile.

If Boston or Dallas jump in, the Spurs have no chance. And you can bet a dollar to a donut they will.

I like the fact that the spurs organization treats their players as family but sometimes you need to use your assets. If you want to be champion then do what you need to do. So get ride of RJ, Bonner, Hill has a good value in the market.
Nene is not a great defensive player but I think he can score in the low post, guys like Bonner where great spreading the floor because we had a scorer in the low post, Duncan is not that scorer anymore. so if they deny us the 3 we just can’t buy a point in the paint = first round exit

Just catching up with this thread after reading the MYSA piece on Nene. I'm not sure how the numbers look, but this is exactly type of player the Spurs need to consider to stay relevant. Nene can be emotional if not erratic sometimes, but given his talent I for one an curious to see if he opts out or if he's just posturing. (Or at least speculate for a while as I put off studying my last law school final!)

If Nene is serious about opting out, a sign and trade where the Spurs move RJ, Hill, and Blair (roughly 12M) helps Denver avoid the dreaded prospect of getting nothing in return. As much as I like Hill and Blair, I truly think either Anderson, Butler, or both can help alleviate the loss of Hill, and Blair, with the emergence of Splitter, will find less time anyway.

SilverSpur
05-06-2011, 06:40 PM
It would toughen up Splitter for sure. Sign him, if he opts out of his final year.

++SaiNt TiAg0++
05-06-2011, 09:53 PM
He'd obviously be an excellent pickup. But the reality is, the Spurs more than likely don't have the assets to acquire him via sign-and-trade (even if the Nuggets accepted a package of McDyess's partially guaranteed contract, Blair, Anderson and either this year's 1st or a future 1st, the salaries wouldn't match, which means a third team would have to be pulled in to help facilitate the trade and what assets would the Spurs have left to entice that third team, without gutting their team?). That means they'd have to sign him outright. Financially, that's doable, if they waive McDyess instead of trading his contract and convince Duncan to opt out and sign a one year deal for $15 million, in addition to pulling off a trade such as Jefferson for Casspi.

The thing about Nene, though, besides him being injury prone and somewhat dependent on athleticism while closing in on 30 is, despite what his physique may suggest, he's not a good rebounder or shot blocker. He's actually more of a skilled, offensive type. Still, I'd prefer him over Varejao, Kaman, Biedrins, Okur, Blatche, etc.

what do you think about joel pryzbilla?

He'd obviously be an excellent pickup. But the reality is, the Spurs more than likely don't have the assets to acquire him via sign-and-trade (even if the Nuggets accepted a package of McDyess's partially guaranteed contract, Blair, Anderson and either this year's 1st or a future 1st, the salaries wouldn't match, which means a third team would have to be pulled in to help facilitate the trade and what assets would the Spurs have left to entice that third team, without gutting their team?).

Not necessarily true. Numbers could work because (per Sham) a package of RJ/Hill/Blair would fetch you nearly 12M. Nene is slated to make $11.6M next year, so a long-term deal starting at around that amount could work. Spurs can always toss Dice's $5.2M contract in there as well. The threshold issues are (1) the CBA cap figure; (2) whether Nene is bluffing about opting out; and (3) if faced with the prospect of Nene walking for nothing, are Hill, Blair, and te shell of RJ enough to compel the Nuggets.

I think at this point, Spurs need an offensive-minded post threat first and foremost. These playoffs showed that guard penetration & kick out isn't sustainable, and that the Spurs really need a post presence that can draw attention down low. Nene is that type of offensive player. Other players cable of drawing that type of attention from defenses, in my book, are Brook Lopez, Al Jefferson and Roy Hibbert.

Pryzbilla turns 32 this year, but he may as well be 37. When healthy, he's still useful in short bursts, because of his size, rebounding, shot blocking and his ability to guard the bigger centers straight up. He'd be a decent fifth big, presuming the Spurs can't acquire the top three big they desperately need.

I'm talking about what the Nuggets would realistically want. If they're going to trade Nene, it's not going to be for an aging, declining, overpaid player, who plays a position they're already set at.

I agree with you: moving RJ (anywhere) is going to be tough. With Chandler and Gallinari, your point that their 3 needs is met is well raised (though, I'm not too familiar with Gallinari's game to be sure). In my offseason musing, I just wonder how serious Nene is about his threat to opt out, and if Hill/Blair (and possibly Dice's K for cap space) would be enough talent in return to entice the Nugs. RJ would be needed to make the numbers work.
