How do you feel about Artist who copy others?

JoeChalupa

Looks similar to me.

Well they do look similar but I don't think they are "copies". Just different interpretations of similar things. Is everyone who paints a sunset a copycat? I'm not an artist, but I don't think so.

Good point, but what if the sunset is made of a hubcap?

Ehhh. The only one I saw where there might be some infringement was the first one. The others are stretches.

How about people who try and paint like Picasso?

burn that motherfucker and spread his wealth to the poorProbably won't happen, but the Chinese government has already detained him, so you can take comfort in that.

LOL dude straight ripped all of those off. Especially the first one. No talent, and he should never be accepted into the artistic community again.

It sure doesn't paint a pretty picture of Ai Weiwei.

I still can't figure that out. There is a site called Artslant and its worldwide they had a competition were many talented artist participated.

The best art never made it past the first round. The winners were people who stacked crates boxes in a pile.

I remember one guy spent three months on a cool painting of his father it looked lifelike and I thought for sure would be in the finals, get this he lost to some guy who had a dirty sock on a stick.

The dude went off on the site and to this day he still brings it up. That is one guy you don't want to rent a truck and sell any fertilizer too.

I think it has to do with how much money you donate to the gallery or who you know.
here are some of the winners.

Bravo! Fucking bravo!

I remember seeing a segment on Dateline or 20/20 or one of those shows a long time ago where they interviewed a bunch of art enthusiasts. The segment was pretty much to debunk the legitimacy of the bullshit kinda "art" like above. They were shown paintings by "artists" that were very Jackson Pollock type BS. Of course the enthusiasts praised the hell out of it. Then without informing them the difference the host started showing them paintings made by 1st graders. And who would've guessed, the art enthusiasts didn't know the difference! When they told the enthusiasts they've been critiquing paintings by 1st graders you could tell they were beyond embarrassed

Lots of art critics have their heads up their rears. The artworld, for the majority, hasn't said anything in a long time.

Some cultures exist solely on the inventions of others. I've seen so many obvious copies of original works from cultures that have absolutely no creativity. It happens in business and it happens in art.

Wow. That sucks for that guy. Complete fraud.

On the subject of the winners of art competitions, I think art is starving for originality. They are going to go with those so called "art" projects because it hasn't really been seen in the art world. They are looking for new forms of creativity, not talent.

I was actually thinking about spelling my name out in urine (LOOK MA!!! NO HANDS!!!) on a canvas and see how far it could take me in an art competition. I would say that it symbolizes the side of me that I wish I could just expulse out of my being. In fact, I would call it, "Detoxification of Me".

I need to download that show. the one guy that got on my nerves was the artist that takes an open suitcase full of clothes and glues it to the wall. People pay big bucks to see his works.

The sad part is I see many peoples art everyday that I just want to purchase myself its so good. And these people never get noticed or win shit.

This person's art below hangs out in a facebook art group I visit look at the great detail and work involved.

Is Art all about "winning"? I think not.

That's why I steer more towards photography, but mainly photojournalism. On the one hand you don't have to create from scratch, which some would say excludes photography as art.

On the other hand, you have to get creative with what you have, which can be harder than starting with nothing and controlling the entire process.

To me, photojournalism tells a story about life. And imo, life is the most interesting story of all. When a photographer does it right, s/he can not only tell you the story, but take you to the story.

Art in a word is what ever a person deems it to be. (in my opinion) I may think watching someone changing a cpu on a Toshiba POS laptop Art.

MannyisGod may think a satellite photo of Hurricane Katrina art.

But I posted a link from an ART site that "has" Art contest monthly.

They "ask" for you to submit art images. They say they will "judge" your Art.

And to have some Artists who spent 11 months painting an image that would make any new home or desktop wallpaper look better lose to some asshole that put a Doritos bag on a stick? well I may just rant about it, and rant...... I shall.

I dare any of you to duplicate this shit and that includes you Slomo!
