its destiny that the Mavs and Heat meet for a rematch in the Finals
Mavs take the unexpected 2-0 lead, in a game that is close all evening, pulling away by 15+ early in the 4th as Peja and Barea go apeshit on the Laker bench, silencing the crowd, and finishing with a 4-8 point win tonight after some careless shooting and turnovers causes the game to get a bit close again.

Please let that happen. Dirk has proven that shorter guys will never be able to stop him 1 on 1. I actually think LO and Gasol did a decent job on him, they contested him well, he just did what he always does and make tough shots. With artest on him, he would just catch and shoot all day with no resistance

One thing I notice with this series is that the moment Dirk puts the ball on the floor, TC/Haywood/Marion all get left wide open. Dirk needs to find those guys for easy points. It should be a fun game tonight.
stretch

Not only that, I guarantee Artest thinks he can just go in and rough Dirk up and win the battle. But Dirk seems to have changed a lot. In the past, he would clearly not be happy with all that and often would resort to more fadeaways. Nowadays, he seems to take it more personal, and attack the guy, and if he gets in attack mode, the Lakers are fucked, because none of them have a remote shot at him when hes focused on getting to the hoop for easy buckets. Artest would just foul out due to frustration of getting killed. Odom would get mind-fucked into bad defense or bad fouls. Gasol simply cant handle him physically or mentally.
What is really funny is watching when Dirk forces Gasol to catch the ball farther away from the basket than his comfort zone, every time he tries to back Dirk down, he goes absolutely nowhere, and ends up either passing or shooting a fallaway. Dirk needs to keep doing that, and keep Gasol out of his comfort zone. It will make the Mavs MUCH better if he can get in Gasol's head and take him out of the game like he often does.

Yup I've noticed that too. Carlisle hopefully has recognized that, and will have some plays ready to be ran in those cases.
This is an area where I like Carlike 100000000000x more than Avery. He makes wayyyyyy better adjustments and is a much better strategist. Avery was just very good at keeping his guys disciplined and motivated, but he sucked at X's and O's.

tbqh, they have some damn good shooters in Peja, Barea, and Terry.
A lot of Mavs fans may disagree strongly, but the Mavs need to utilize Barea more. His ability to penetrate and break defenses down is the biggest defensive weakness of the Lakers. If he goes in there, focused on not killing his dribble unless he either has a wide open pass, or an easy layup, he is going to eat them alive. He gets himself into trouble though when he kills his layup, thinking something is there, then is taken away at the last second (due to his lack of height)

Mavs win tonight, lose game 3, Mavs fans think the Mavs are fucked, Mavs win game 4, Lakers blow the shit out of the Mavs in game 5, again leading to people thinking the Lakers will comeback in 7 and Mavs fans thinking they should just committ suicide, then Mavs win game 6 in similar fashion to how they won game 6 against Portland, solidly with a scare.
this IS how the series will go.

only way we win game 2 is if artest defends dirk..gimme that shit all day
if the Lakers are stupid enough to do that, the first chance that the Mavs have to sub someone in, I would either replace Marion with Peja, or slide Marion to the 2 on defense and replace Stevenson with Peja, because then that means you either have Gasol running around trying to chase Peja on the perimeter which would be great, or you gotta put Gasol back on Dirk, which is also a good thing.

I think part of the reason that Dirk has started to be more aggressive when other guys get physical is the fact that he knows he's a superstar and if he's the aggressor he'll usually get the benefit of the doubt.
The Lakers actually have the roster that's ideal in stopping a guy like Dirk, but it's gonna take more than one guy. The only series where Dirk has ever shit the bed was GS, and it took 2-3 guys every possession shading him.
This will be a good series simply because it will be interesting seeing how arguably the greatest coach of all time adjusts to the hardest guy in the NBA to gameplan for

they're gonna have to figure something out because just letting him get his and attempting to shut everyone else down just doesn't work on a guy like dirk..he's so unselfish he'll continue to still give the ball up and find an open man then more than likely have the ball reverse right back after the defense adjusts, this time probably open for the J.
what has been real key for the team is the way JET is playing. Hes not just chucking shots like he used to in the past. he has been taking better shots, looking to penetrate more, and been very controlled for the most part. If he keeps playing like that, its going to be really tough for the Lakers.

definitely going to need Barea to step up, because he has an ability to attack LA's biggest weakness. hopefully we get that tonight.

gotta give the guy credit, for the most part, JET has played some pretty smart ball overall so far in the postseason, with the exception of that foul on the 3 last game, and the two back-court violations in game 6 against portland :lol

I think dirk gets more aggressive against physical defence is because attacking a defender, getting him back on his heels and drawing fouls is the best option. Beating someone at their own game is rather demoralizing. It's as they say, offence is the best defence, at times.

Dirk doesn't have to throw elbows or get techs to be a physical leader during this series. All he needs to is lay out Kobe or Fisher one time when they try to waltz through the paint. It amazes me how he'll just watch guys go straight to the hoop. If he'd get his body into Kobe, Kobe would go flying.

tbh he will do that earlier in games because he knows he cant afford to get in foul trouble. later in games, if he has plenty of fouls to give, or its a very key stop, he will step up and contest it, usually doing so pretty well. he did it a number of times against Portland.

dem niggas all inconsistent as london's weather tbh. Peja dropped 20+ pts in game 1 which helped alot obviously but u ain't seeing the same output from him every fucking game in this series. JET/Peja just been performing far above their usual level but the hot hands ain't gonna last long im afraid.
as good as Barea da nig seems to be, i'd rather suggest use him less the following games tbh. the lakers ALMOST won game 1 imo with a 16-pt lead at one time in the 3rd qtr i believe, they just choked hard somehow and blew away a W, but i ain't seeing it happening again in this series. fluke win may come twice, but it ain't coming for a 3rd time imho. The scary thing is that the Mavs are actually making a number of mental errors and yet they still have the lead. Ominous sign for the Lakers, usually when a team gives them an inch they take it a mile.

Rick schooling PJ ... great move by bringing in Dirk with this clueless bench (outside Odom)
The thing I don't get is how come Rick knows how to manage Dirk's minutes better than PJ does Kobe's?
