View Full Version : Why would Orlando want to give up Howard?

If Howard is OK with staying in Orlando and he is so far, why would the Magic even look at offers for him? This guy isn't about the glamour or dating fat Kardashians, why does LA think they have him already? Howard is the perfect piece to build around and that's exactly what Orlando is going to do.

Howard isn't going anywhere.

why would the Magic even look at offers for him?

Because they see Cleveland's current place in the standings and think, "There but for the grace of God go us."

Cavaliers are the canary in the coal mine when it comes to restive superstars.

They tried and failed. Coach will be gone and a new team built around him. They will have a meeting with Howard and show him what they want to do and how they want him to be the center piece and he's happy again.

Damn, the Stern equation. I didn't calculate for that.

David Stern would have nothing to do with it. The supporting cast around him is awful and looks to stay that way. Unless Ryan Anderson suddenly develops into a superstar.

The Magic roster suck and is stuck with terrible contracts. They have no big expirings and no talents with nice value contracts. This teams goes nowhere, even with Howard. Not past the Heat or Bulls.

So all he has to do is to pull an Anthony. "I just sign an extension with the Lakers or go as FA to the Nets". LA is a nice place since he became a huge attention whore. Nets have Williams and should be able to get another 3rd string "star" with Lopez+lottery pick and (in 2012) the expirings of Morrow/Farmar/Petro.

Lakers trade:
Dwight+Arenas for Bynum, Odom, Walton, Fisher. Magic dump Arenas 63million for Walton/Fishers 19million. They just have Hedo as bad contract, built around Bynum. Bass, Redick and Nelson are moveable. Thats an ok situation considering Dwight could leave for nothing to the Nets and they are stuck with Arenas and without Bynum.

Lakers:
Blake/Arenas
Bryant
Artest
Gasol
Dwight

Lakers have their post Kobe franchise player. Of course they take Arenas for this.

Thing is we are NOT MILES away like the Knicks were.

Howard is my "dream" choice, but I would accept a PG like Dwill or Paul as consolation ...TBh.

The thing is Kobe can still score at an elite level. But I don't think he can create and score anymore at an elite level. His defense is slipping as well. SO help in the back-court could be just as valuable. Problem lies though if we go PG we cant give up Bynum, because we need his defense.

Give Kobe a top level PG and it maximizes his skills, though he would have to score more without the ball than he ever has ...

BUt with atop PG i think he makes that adjustment. That PG would need to be a decent defender which leaves me towards DWill (size) but Paul is such a competitor ...

How is that ridiculous?

We are the franchise did NOT have to draft: Wilt, Kareem, shaq or Pau ...(LOL Who does NOT belong)

My point was that getting a PG to pair with Kobe bynum and Odom may be better than eating Arenas's contract. How can we spend 50 million on backcourt of a "shot" Arenas and declining Kobe ...that makes no sense. Especially since we already have a center ...we may need to trade Pau for a PG.

As much as I hate the Orlando Tragic FO (lol 2nd highest payroll in the NBA and your 2nd best player is Nate Robinson 2.0) there's just no way in hell they'd trade with the Lakers. It'd be a PR nightmare after that Shaq fiasco and losing to them in the Finals not too long ago.

If Dwight goes out West he should consider the Mavs tbh

Better take care that your "consolation prize" DWill doesnt steal Dwight away and convince him to join Brooklyn as a FA.

I hear ya, on not wanting to trade with Lakers. But Lakers have made trades with them (owners have good rapport) ...

Going to the mavs for what ... Tyson Chandler? Lakers have contracts and assets what would Mavs trade?

If Howard is OK with staying in Orlando and he is so far
What makes you actually believe this? Just because he isn't stupid enough to come out and say: "Yes, I am going to leave this team because they aren't going anywhere soon and I don't want to waste the best years of my career on first round exits" doesn't mean he wants to stay there.

Howard wants out, and he's going to get his wish, whether it's through a trade or free agency is yet to be seen. Still, one can all but guarantee he won't be wearing an Orlando uniform in 2012-2013.

free capspace?

DWill
Dwight as FA
B.Lopez + 2011 draft pickor 2012 lottery pick + expirings for another allstar SG/SF

And they have at least their 2.5 superbestfriends...

Even if there was good rapport it'd still be a huge PR nightmare for them but anything's possible I suppose.

I was just talking out of my ass about the Mavs since the thought of a Dirk and Dwight combination is :wow even if Dirk's getting old.

But the Mavs would throw in money, picks, Roddy (:downspin:), expirings, and just about anyone on the roster for Dwight. And imo the Mavs would be more willing than the Lakers to take on some of the Tragic contracts.

If howard wanted to stay ... he would re-sign."Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith said in published reports earlier this year that he planned to offer Howard a contract this summer."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6101926

Also, he would probably make a lot more money signing an extension in the summer before the lockout.

Oh I think there is no doubt Howard's going to walk. Everyone but some Magic homers have come to that realization

Magic have a good history of drafting. A trade will make them a mid range drafting team so they will be stuck in the same mediocrity they are now
