View Full Version : No secret Dwight desires the Lakers

Of the teams Howard is likely to consider when exercising his early-termination option after next season -- sources say the Lakers, Knicks and Nets are the strong favorites -- L.A. is the one with the most attractive trade assets. The massive contracts attached to the Lakers' most desirable players also puts them in the rare position of being able to absorb either Arenas or Turkoglu as a way to soften the blow for Orlando.

"Everybody knows that Dwight Howard wants to be a Laker," said a person familiar with the All-Star center's plans. "They're going to lose Dwight Howard for nothing. He's not staying there. Dwight Howard is going to be in the same mode as LeBron James."

He'll be a Knick or a Net

And by "the most attractive trade assets" they mean Luke Walton, Barnes and Blake...

:nope

you need to realize somehing here. Financially he's set. It's not about the money for him. There is no glamour or allure to N.J. or even N.Y. The west coast has always been the "in" place to go and he knows it.

The Lakers will make a push for him no doubt.

:lol Luke is actually an expiring contract, so he is going to be wanted.

Dwight at PF and Drew at Center.

He wont be Knicks or nets.

Nets make less sense to me ...that would akin to choosing Clips over Lakers ...

The nuggets got everything they wanted and then some. MIA had cap space to sign Bron to a max deal without anyone's help.

LA can't sign Dwight to a max contract because they don't have the cap space.

Huge difference. Come on Killa, you slippin'...

Yes, I'm preparing for the skunker.

I invented The Skunker. And I'll defend that property with every fiber of my being.

If CBa stays the same, you are correct. never argued that. CBA changes and Dwight still wants to leave max deal may NOT be as bad as you think. Yes we will need to trade genius, regardless but if max contracts are less (new CBA) then that lessens the Magic's leverage unless the players give the owners a "franchise tag" ...but I doubt that.

You never brought up any of those points until I said it :lol

You clearly tried to related the Cavs situation to Orlando's which I refuted with facts. I am just trying to have a legit convo genius.

LOL @ unknown source trying to put a gun to Magic's head

Here's my thinking with the Magic: It's a franchise that has drafted Howard, Shaq and Webber in the past 20 years.

Unless your getting Bynum & Odom, why do the trade? Your just gonna be competitive which means useless mid range draft picks. Magic will be stuck in mediocrity forever

INSTEAD you let Howard walk, he takes a PR hit like LeBron did, you tank for a year and get a franchise player instead of 2 role players

And given the Magic front office comments. I think they agree with me

The logic of LA trading with them is sound. LA is (on the surface) one of the few teams that have young assets to get a deal done (especially if Bynum could stay healthy). But Orlando doesn't have a gun to their head.

Why the fuck do these players even consider the Nets?

What's there that's so great?

They have absolutely no start power other then Deron Williams. The rest are fodders.

They don't. It's just Media helping Stern out.

Big market. Dwight/Deron >>> Amare/Melo. That's a start. Not that I see that happening, but it's not like NY is some world beater either.

Hmmm.... young point guard who can get me good shots or over the hill shooting guard who never passes the damn ball? Tough call tbh.

This is simple. If your the Magic

- Trade with Lakers for role players (good luck beating Heat or Bulls) AND you have to watch Howard compete for title

vs

- Let Howard walk and he takes PR hit. Get a Griffin/Rose in the NBA Draft

If you're LA do you give up only Bynum or would you give up Bynum/Odom/Cobbler for Dwight?

Well that all depends on what the Magic are asking for.

Like I said, Is brittle Bynum and Odom enough to defeat Heat/Bulls?

or are you better off drafting #1 and building around that player? Another Howard, Shaq, Webber

Seriously

You trade Howard: Fans are pissed & you have to watch him compete for title at the team you traded him to

You left Howard walk: Fans take anger out on Howard

The Magic aren't like the Lakers/Spurs where they have a clock ticking. Why not draft a Griffin? The fans would fall in love

so who exactly would LA trade?
The price is steep, 3 options

A)Bynum
B)Bynum & Odom
C)Gasol & Odom & scrub/draft pick

If I'm Magic, I do neither. If I'm Lakers I don't offer B.

I don't see why Lakers would give up their WHOLE front line for Howard. Dwight isn't Shaq/Duncan or even KG

No way Orlando:
- takes Gasol and pay over 50 mil for Arenas, Turkoglu and Gasol till 2014
- takes Bynum without extension. With current deal Bynum will walk away same year as Howard
No way Lakers:
- make enough cap space to sign Howard via FA.
No way Howard:
- takes less money only to play with old Kobe

Unless the Lakers can trade for Bynum straight up (they are the Lakers after all) or throw in some fillers/draft picks, they shouldn't do this trade.

They shouldn't give up Gasol because neither Bynum or Howard could play PF, and Odom is too versatile to give away also. That shitty bench would just get shittier.

Giuseppe
