View Full Version : I want the Mavs to win it all

I used to be bitter about being one of the few teams who have never won a championship. Watching the Mavs lose the Heat in '06 and the Warriors in '07 was a real treat because I didn't want these guys winning a championship before my lovable loser Suns. But I'm done with that now. This Mavs team has what it takes to go all the way, and I hope they do. It's not just the defeat of the Lakers. I need something to believe in, that a franchise who has had no success can go all the way to the top.

I love my boys in blue. Win that chip, Dirk! I got your back, Mavs fans!

I'm pulling for the Thunder...but I wouldn't be upset if the Mavs won it all. Dirk definitely deserves it. He's been dicked around for years by Cuban and his penis envy obssession to build a team to beat the Spurs instead of a team built win a championship. Now that the Spurs are no longer relevant, it seems like he finally has the right mix of players around him to accomplish it.

The biggest reason I wouldn't mind seeing them win though is my dad. He has been a Mavs for as long as I've been alive and he lives and dies by them more and more now that he is retired and no longer has work to focus on. He has even bought League Pass several years in a row and and talks to me all the time about the team and what he thinks they should do. Because of him I have watched more Mavs games this year than I have any other year...and though I'm still pretty sure I wouldn't pull Cuban or Jason Terry out of an icy river I have come to appreciate Dirk and his greatness even more than I already did.

I look forward to seeing the smile on my dad's face and shaking his hand as Dirk hoists the trophy.

At this point I think it will be Dallas vs. Miami again, and I think Miami is going to win, which sucks because fuck those collusive chodes. You know if they win the title this year, that's it. Once Haslem and Miller are integrated, they user their MLE, start filling out their roster, they're gonna be scary. It's amazing how good they are with PATHETIC players like Mike Bibby, Big Z, and Joel Alexander playing big minutes.

the shooting and finishing part was pushing it, but make no mistake, Roddy has freakish athleticism. Roddy is extremely quick, fast, and can explode with ease for dunks, much like Rose. hes not nearly as aggressive as Rose is though, but I think their athletic ability is more comparable than you think.

He's not as athletic as Rose, just like DJ Augustin isn't as good as Rose. Live with it. If he was the player you just described, he wouldn't have 0 points so far in the playoffs.

I'm a fan of Dirks, so if the Mavs won, it wouldn't be such a horrible thing (if you can get past their owner, fans, and JT). I would rather the Hawks take it though. I am a fan of the forgotten, small market underdogs for obvious reasons.

I need something to believe in, that a franchise who has had no success can go all the way to the top.

Funny, how I saw an article with Stern saying the same thing and how small market teams can compete as a result of this year's playoffs, which will in turn help to placate some owners with the next CBA.

Timely, conspiracy if there ever was one.

Kyle Orton
05-10-2011, 11:47 AM
Stern is incredibly stupid for using Dallas to proclaim "small market teams" can compete. The DFW area is easily one of the 5 biggest metropolitan areas in the country, and the Mavs are the only team other than LA with a payroll over 90 mil. If the Mavs are the best example Stern has of a "small market team" beating the odds, he's only giving the people who say big markets have a huge competitive advantage in the NBA more ammo.

Personally, i'd prefer OKC because Perk is a real nigga.

Kidd/Dirk deserve a ring. My happiness for them would be canceled out by Jet getting one making him more unbearable than he is now. But after tappin that Laker ass in Game 4, i've made peace with turtle ringing.

seeing LeBron ring would make this season even worse than it already is for LakerFan and kobeFan so that would be great. But like somebody said, they're gonna win 3 or 4 in the next 5 years anyways.

I know you didn't predict sweep and it was a good call saying Mavs had a good shot, but regardless, you were saying that shit anyways with absolutely 0 analysis going into it :lol

How the fuck was there no analysis?

I said a number of times, the Mavs had plenty of guys who could hold their own defensively against the Lakers, such as Stevenson-Kobe, Marion-Artest, Chandler/Haywood-Gasol/Bynum. And the biggest trump card was that the Lakers had less ways to contain Dirk, than the Mavs had to contain Kobe. I also said Jason Terry was the X-Factor, and that if he played well and controlled, the Mavs would have a chance. Holy shit, that is almost exactly why the Mavs beat the piss out of them. I never felt incredibly confident about this series, I felt it was 60/40 in favor of the Lakers, and said numerous times that I honestly thought the Lakers would win the series, despite a silly post where I said "fuck it, Mavs in 6".

So kindly shut the fuck up with all the "homer" bullshit.

stretch.. care to elaborate on "Mavs in 5"

Miami has Lebron, Wade, then some shooters and guys who don't do much of anything. The Mavs zone defense will give them all kinds of hell, especially since they don't have any legit post scoring presences. Generally, zone can be eaten alive by good shooters, but this Mavs zone defense closes out on shooters extremely well for a zone defense, and even if they have to go to man for stretches, they have guys who can hold their own defensively in Marion and Stevenson.

Again, I think the differences will be that the Mavs have more answers for the Heat's Big 3, than the Heat will have for Dirk and the deep bench. Miami's defense will get mindfucked by Kidd and the Mavs fantastic ball movement, and they have even less of a paint presence on both ends than the Lakers. Dirk and Terry want their revenge, and both will have a very good series, while I see Lebron struggling against the Mavs zone defense, and Wade having an up-and-down series. Don't be suprized if the most consistent player for the Heat is not one of the Big 3.

If Miami wants a chance, Bron and Wade will need to remain in the game for 44+ minutes a night. That doesn't bode well for Miami, considering they already are a team that has trouble closing games out, and they will be going against arguably the #1 team in terms of closing games in the NBA.

Dirk will win series MVP, but what definitely cant be overlooked will be the contributions of Chandler and Haywood, both of which I expect to have a good series, Chandler defensively, Haywood offensively.

These are all facts. Not homerism. Simple facts.

I promised my friend in Dallas I would finally root for Dirk and only Dirk to win it all. I know Terry will wind up with a ring too but at this point I think Dirk deserves a ring. So yes, I'm rooting Mavs.

how much you talking? ill take a paypal cash bet

How much do you want? I'll do up to $500. Are you doing the original bet (You get the Mavs, I get the field) or the revised (You get the Mavs, I get MIA, if neither win, bet is off)?

It would be a sight to behold. I hope you enjoyed prom.

I will take the Mavs-Heat bet. i already put down $100 on the mavs at +4000 to win the ship early this year so fuck it why not. let me see what kind of cash i have to put down on a bet real quick

Ill take the bet at $500 as long as your not like that bitch made laker fan a while back, was it luva?

I'm not and it was Kool and now Luva as well.

Mavs win, I give you $500

Heat win, you give me $500

If neither win, nothing happens.

We have a deal.

deal.

Bet made before this final was set in stone. It was meant to be. Shit just got real.
