Yes, North Texas, you can finally grab a Double-Double Animal Style at the first two In-N-Out locations opening this Wednesday, May 11.

Locations in Frisco and Allen will open at 10:30 a.m. on that day, though they may open early if customers are waiting, according to an e-mail sent from In-N-Out representitive Carl Van Fleet.

Fleet said the other North Texas locations are "at least several weeks, if not a few months, away" from opening.

The west-coast burger chain will have some fierce competition in the area, with Denver-based Smashburger looking to expand after investment from Cowboys offensive line player Mark Columbo and others brought the chain to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Columbo told NBCDFW they plan on opening a Frisco location of the chain in the near future.

In addition, burger barns like Mooyah, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Evolution Burger, Twisted Root, Love Shack and more are all expanding into North Texas, further enflaming the burger battle.

Looks like I'll have to be taking a road-trip soon.

What's so great about these burgers?

That's the thing: they're not the most amazing burgers ever or anything. I can make a better burger in my own kitchen.

They are just good, basic fast food burgers. Good quality ingredients, not overdone or overdressed. Burgers, fries, drinks. That's it. See the menu:

http://i51.tinypic.com/dcpk02.jpg

You can't even get bacon on them or anything, but the beauty is in the simplicity, I guess.

One of the main reasons I like them is because they remind me of when I lived in California. Whenever we go back, it's a must stop. I would probably feel the same way about Whataburgers if I were to leave Texas.

Those are some good burgers, Walter.

Arrived at 5:30. The drive-thru line actually zig-zagged for at least half a mile.

I get to my spot in the line, but can't really see just how long it extends around the corner.

An hour in, and the medics and fire truck (tha fuck?) arrive. Evidently, someone tried to cut, and someone else took objection. I wish I was kidding. The cutter was arrested. The cut-TEE was sent to the hospital.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/Fpoonsie/IMAG0210.jpg

After 2 hours, I make it inside...only to find out that I have to wait another hour and 45 minutes for my order to be ready.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/Fpoonsie/IMAG0212.jpg

I came back at 9:30, and the line is even longer than it was when I first got there.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/Fpoonsie/IMAG0213.jpg

I grab my order, and make the long walk back to my car. A Double-Down and fries, both animal style, with a root beer. Tasty? Fuck yes. Worth a four hour wait? Not unless it comes w/ "animal style" sex afterwards.

Crews preparing for more crowds today at In-N-Out Burger in Frisco
By Valerie Wigglesworth/Reporter
[email protected] | Bio
11:01 AM on Thu., May. 12, 2011

I stopped by In-N-Out Burger in Frisco this morning on my way to the office. The California-based chain had opened early again today, but didn't have nearly the line that it did on Wednesday - its first day in Texas here and in Allen.

Burger-fanatics on foot all fit inside the restaurant, and the drive-through lane was manageable with less than 10 cars.

But crews are expecting another big crowd. They've got yellow warning tape wrapped around the shopping center parking lot to guide drive-through customers, who stretched more than 80 cars long on Wednesday morning (I hear it got longer at lunchtime).

Frisco's store manager Scott Bayliss said he's been humbled by the warm welcome to Texas. He's been with In-N-Out for 13 years and moved to Frisco from Los Angeles a month ago. In the video above, which was shot on Wednesday before the burger chain's opening, he's on the right in the blue shirt and red apron leading the song.

Bayliss loves his job and loves bringing a bit of joy into customers' lives. "Food is one of life's little pleasures," he said. "We offer a burger, fries and a drink. But it's more than that."

In case you missed it, check out today's story on why places like In-N-Out garner such a following. And you can watch the video of the grand opening here.

Wonder how long it will take for the crowds to become semi-tolerable.

I was only somewhat joking yesterday when I made the crack that my heart yearns for a Double Double. And there's no doubt in my mind that if an In-N-Out opened anywhere within an hour drive of me, I'd find a way to get there within its first week of business. But even I think it's fucking batshit to cry over a fast food hamburger. Equally batshit to eat one everyday.

"North Texas also seems an appropriate fit for the expanding In-N-Out presence (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/12/in-n-out-burger-north-texas-expansion_n_861172.html), considering its propensity of churches and Christian residents.
