Yep, he played well when he got in there, got us back in game 6 when the starters were resting by hitting a few shots. He is one of the few who showed they are not deer in headlights (RJ, Hill and Bonner suck).

Agreed. Fireball, unlike many, has waited until there was something newsworthy to post. Thanks, Fireball!

Congrats Gary, well deserved. He plays with energy and gives all he has in the court. One of the few bright spots for us this season :toast.

Monroe was a beast once 2011 rolled around. At least 25 double doubles.

Him and Tiago were the only ones who didn't disappoint in the playoffs.

Not surprising as he finished like 5th? in ROY voting. This news really warms your heart and I hope hope Neal continues to improve. Undrafted rookie making 1st team all rookie =)

James (Detroit) :
Why wasn't Greg Monroe selected to the all NBA Rookie First Team?

John Hollinger :
Because, I suspect, a lot of coaches "outsource" their votes for this stuff to PR directors and the like. Anyone who thinks Landry Fields or Gary Neal had a better rookie year than Monroe wasn't paying attention, but because Fields was in New York and got a lot of attention and Monroe was in Detroit and got none, it swung a bunch of voters who really should know better. Same goes for Ed Davis by the way -- it's ridiculous that he's not even on second team when he's better than two of the guys on the first team.

Didn't watch Detroit a lot so it's hard to compare

The gravity of his testicles IS too great to ignore. TBH.
A little less the "elephant" in the room, and a little more elephantitis. IMO.

Neal with all his experience playing professional in Europe was surely more NBA ready that players coming from college. Even considering that, it's still a great accomplishment for an undrafted player to make the all rookie first team.

Tiago got some votes which is remarkable given how little playing time Pop gave him.

Kid was big. What could've been on the perimeter had JA not gone down with the team having 2 sharp-shooting rookies in the playoffs unafraid of taking shots and stretching the defense.

Hats off to Gary and looking forward to seeing more from him in the coming years.

One of the few players that Spurs HAVE to keep. He's what players like RJ, Bonner, and Hill need to play like.

Congrats to Gary.. like him very much. BTW I think it's a joke that Monroe isn't on the first team when he was the 3rd or 4th best rookie last year.

Cousins shouldn't of been first team.. probably one of the most inefficent seasons a rookie has ever put up. Big man shooting 43% with 3.3 T.O.s a game... dude should not be first team.

So much for the forum's prediction that Splitter was better than Griffin and would win ROY.............:lol:lmao:rollin:blah:rolleyes

Good, the blue pills are finally having some effects.
Don't forget to switch to the red ones in about two weeks.

The entire forum said that? Must have missed it. Seems like many of us said that he should get playing time. Since he was the Spurs' second best player in the playoffs despite no time during the season, that's probably correct.

Not really. He has only one more year on his contract IIRC.

I would have prefered a normal rookie contract that keep him cheap for 3 or 4 years.

Congrats to Gary. Would like to see him get more touches next year...no reason he can't hit 2 or 3 Ray Allen-type jumpers-off-screens per game.

The forum consensus said he was already better than Griffin and that he would be ROY and bashed anyone who questioned that.

stop lying to prove your point.

It was not the forum consensus.

Yes it was. Or are you denying that thread happened?

No it was not. Here we have the poll

http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158999&highlight=splitter

140 votes for Griffin and 84 for Splitter.

So it was not the forum consensus at all. You may laugh about the delusional homers, but dont say it was the forum consensus as a whole because it was not.

My post is in that thread, yet it's entirely possible that I voted for Splitter just for fun. :lol

The only explanation I see for legitimately voting for Splitter is people saying that he might be better in his first year before Griffin figures it out.

After watching Splitter actually get a chance to play in the playoffs with no conditioning and no time with the first team, I have to say that my expectations are pretty high for next year.

Well deserved by Neal. What a ballsy shot that Game 5 buzzer beater will always be - undrafted rookie from europe with a questionable past gets the one chance only a spur could get, and nails it. He's definitely one of the bright spots of this team's future.
