Yes they can, but they have 30 % chance getting past OKC.

How pathetic is it that I hope Memphis can do really awesome this playoffs so that my pathetic team that couldn't even get out of the first round looks better?

Why are guys still doubting Memphis? They already beat the Spurs and is only 1 game away from advancing to the WCF, that's an impressive feat tbh.

Its not a reach to think Memphs can beat Dallas as well.

Fat boy Randolph has no chance of guarding Dirk. Mavs in 5 max.

Ditty
05-14-2011, 03:52 PM
Dallas will win in 6, unless the mavs make the grizz perimeter players look like allstars like the Spurs did.

I think OKC would beat Dallas in 5 if Durant doesn't go into Kobe mode.

Why is Memphis STILL being underrated? Yes, they can beat the Mavs. However, I expect Dallas will find a way to win if they were to meet.

Dirk has no chance of guarding Randolph either.

05-14-2011, 04:31 PM
Dirk is playing at a high level right now and if he continues to stay at that level then nobody can cover him. The real key is to make Dirk work on defense which the Lakers couldn't do. I don't think Dirk can guard either M.Gasol or Randolph and that will get exploited throughout a 7 game series. I would say the Grizzlies have a 50-50 chance of winning against the mavs.

dirk4mvp
05-14-2011, 04:49 PM
Dirk has no chance of guarding Randolph either.

Tyson will hold him, and he's far and away the best defender he will have faced so far. Even if Dirk did hold him, he has a much better chance at stopping ZBO than Randolph has of holding Dirk.

ChrisRichards
05-14-2011, 04:53 PM
I credit Jason Terry, Peja and Barrea more than Dirk against the Lakers. I think those 3 were the biggest components. Dirk will give his usual 24, 9 or whatever his number is in the postseason but the bigger question is, will Dallas' role players step up once more.

I agree with DAF86, Randolph will be such a difficult cover for Dirk. He had it easy against Pau who was playing at an all time low 2 weeks ago when they were eliminated. Randolph is absoultely destroying the OKC frontline, there's no reason why he won;t do the same against the Mavericks softer frontcourt.

Both teams would destroy the Mavs lmao. Idk why everyone is all over the Mav's nuts after beating a terrible LA team. LA played shitty all season long and they continued to do so in the playoffs, it isn't the same caliber of team that won the ship last year. Memphis, OKC, and even the Spurs would probably have swept LA if they played them, POR would have beaten LA, and so would've Denver.

Mavs have been quite fortunate via the extended layover. It will serve them well. They're not only rested, but, they're healthy & robust. That's rare for any team at the end of May.

I'll need either Memphis or OKC to stand up here nonetheless. I want Dallas...o.u.t. OUT.

DMC
05-14-2011, 06:18 PM
I am afraid Dallas is going to run over either Memphis or OKC. Memphis if the shooters cannot get it done (they don't have great outside shooting) and OKC if Westbrook cannot get his team more involved.

FkLA
05-15-2011, 04:32 AM
How many of you thought the Memphis niggas would be child's play for the Spurs? How many of you thought the Thunder would expose them like Utah exposed GS?? smh at people still sleeping on them, its still up in the air whether they advance...but if they do they have the tools to give dallas a dogfight. Dirk cant win alone, he'll need his shooters to keep burying those 3s and we've seen how solid the Grizz are at defending the 3.

I also agree with Hooks to some extent, people are crowning the Mavs as some unstoppable force because they beat a washed up Laker team that didnt look like a real contender all season. They were viewed as one simply because they were the defending champs not because their play reflected that. These same Mavs struggled against Portland and gave indication that they were just as mentally weak as previous yrs with yet another epic choke job in Game 4 and another close call in Game 6.

In all honesty, most fans thought the Lakers are to be in the Finals too, but that didn't happen. There has been a few surprising upsets this year so I wouldn't be shocked at all if Memphis somehow finds a way to beat the Mavericks considering this team had history of epic collapses.

Yes, the Mavs beat the Lakers. However, they beat an old, tired Lakers full of quit with serious chemistry issues and the Mavs shot lights out for the most part. The Grizzlies have a team that can hit the Mavs in their weak spot. The Mavs will fold under pressure if the Grizzlies get physical and play hard nosed defense. If Randolph/Gasol get going, the Mavs can't stop them. It's time for Barrea and Terry to come back to earth. The match-ups are pretty even defensively for the Grizz. The only advantage the Mavs have, as usual, is Dirk.

ChrisRichards

Terry is going to have one tough series if Memphis advance. Tony Allen is going to lock this guy out.

I think the Lakers were a contender tbh. They had one really impressive stretch Post AS break but anything after that was hot garbage. They were dropping 4 game losing streaks against bad and good teams all season long. The sign was there and most people knew their time was up. They had way too many issues that were not resolved in the regular season, it built up and come playoff time they imploded.

Nearly any team with young and athletic players are going to give the Mavs some competition especially if its at the guard spot. Imo the next biggest factor would be how Hollins decides to defend Dirk and the 3 point line.

Tbh I didn't watch any of the reg season match-ups between Grizz/Mavs but it looks like most of those games were close...however they only played one game after the trade deadline as well.

ChrisRichards
05-15-2011, 10:46 AM
I agree with Ohm there, the Mavs did not beat the Lakers at its best. It was pretty much Andrew Bynum and 2 games of Kobe Bryant there. Gasol's head was not in that series and that's the single biggest reason they were swept.

Still, the Mavs did an impressive job, I'm not going to take that away from them. I think another issue was Carlisle's excellent gameplan outcoaching Phil in all 4 games. Phil also stuck to his old stubborn ways like benching Kobe way too long in Game 1, allowing Fisher to finish games when Terry was raining 3's all series long and pushing Pau Gasol's button all contributed to their demise.

None of the Zombie Sonics can guard Dirk, he's going to have Ibaka and Perkins flying left and right whenever he pump fakes. If they give him space he'll punish them with his jumper. Play him close, he'll drive by. Play him too physical, he'll beat them at the FT line. If they sell out on defense to stop him, Chandler will get easy dunks and Kidd will get open 3's. He's just a nightmare matchup for the whole league, which is why defenders resort to hacking.

"They beat the classy Spurs :cry, don't underrate them :cry"

Wow you are one dumbass retarded jew...

How about the fact that theyve gone toe to toe with a Thunder team whom most people consider a serious threat? At what point does your retarded jew self stop dismissing them as some fluke team??

lol @ people saying now that the Lakers were obviously not contenders all along

At what point other than that short run post all-star game did they look like one? They looked vulnerable all season long and in their first round match-up. They were considered the 'favorites' simply because they were the defending champs and media darlings, not because their play indicated that they were.

The Lakers were vulnerable the past two seasons, they just didn't play any serious competition in the West. This year they did, and look what happened

We'll see if it was serious competition, or, O & Forever!. If it's the former I'll cite it. If it's the latter, I'm gonna ride high & wide to the point where She'll have to come down here in that saddle shoes/cheer leader outfit that I'm so fond of.

Agreed, they looked vulnerable last season too although to a lesser extent than this year. I was really surprised that they got past the Cs in the Finals although the Perk injury+30 FT 4th Qtr obviously had alot to do with that.

It's all in your mind, Ty. I understand. You guys were psychologically affected by 2006. It was more than your minds could absorb & bear so you blocked it out. It's why there wasn't a lot of shit talking after The Shellacking. You can trust nothing. I been there. After the Summer of '84 I was desolate. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. Well, I could eat.

memphis was supposed to be a measly 8 seed, of course noone respected them or thought much of them before the playoffs...theyve earned that respect and shown that theyre a very good team not just with their series win against the 11' Suns but also with their play in this series vs OKC. it has nothing to do with with being butthurt or trying to justify an embarrasing outing and everything to do with giving props to a team that has earned that praise.
