dirk 10-12 FG 20-20 FT's 40 points, westbrook 40 points in 30 shots game 4
20 FTs for Dirk. I bet if the Heat and Mavs meet again and Wade shoots 20+ FTs, Mavs fan would have a fit again.
Like Dirk shooting 24 FTs (or something like that) against the Spurs, but then Mavs fan crying about Wade shooting 25 FTs against their team.
Anyway, OKC not attacking the basket is what's killing them right now. That and Westbrook forgetting that Durant is on his team.

True. He's a shot blocker who works best coming from the week-side. He's not a great 1v1 defender. He couldn't guard Randolph and got benched in crunch time in favor of Collison. Shouldn't expect a better outcome against Dirk.

Ibaka's got to try to coax Dirk into trying to drive into the help at the rim or taking a more difficult, midrange shot, but I'll still live with him over the doubles and automatic fouls by smaller defenders right now. That still may change because I'm sure they're going to throw different looks at Dirk moving forward, but he's still the best defender.

At least he said he was wrong, but he was right.
Top 5 can't be broken by any player playing right now imo, except for Lebron. But Lebron has to want it. It's a mental game now with him. Physically, he's got more than enough tools to do it.
Anyway, Dirk is playing out of his mind. But no player should be shooting 20+ FTs in a playoff game. That means too many fouls are being called. Hell, I'm not even sure a team should be shooting 20+ FTs in a game.

Dirk has never played this well. He's in a zone as is the Mavs bench. It's all falling into place for the Mavs. This is turning into one of those special postseasons that the Mavs will be unlikely to duplicate again.
Wow, I dont know what to say.
Maybe the Mavs are meant to win this year, and maybe the Lakers only need some minor tweaks. The way the Mavs are shooting, and Dirk is playing not much we could do ...

I agree with all of this ...Lebron only player still in the playoffs and maybe the in the league that has an outside shot at GOAT status ....but Dirk was badass.

He played this well back in '06 up until game 3 of the finals. I would say this game is up there with his 50 point game against the Suns back in the WCF of '06.

Dirk turns in a great performance, but it took Wesbrook sucking to get the win.
Mavs will be lucky to go to OKC 2-0.
Series going 6 games, at least.
One big advantage is that Mavs have so much more deep playoffs experience.

2. I was at Game 3. Like i said Mavs are better than the Lakers. Just like that terry dagger (middle of the 4th) told me Lakers were not coming back in that series, OKC was NOT winning (check the thread history) when terry hit the one over durant tonight.
Only way I see Dallas losing is if Lebron reaches the last level or greatness or Bulls have 7 more defensive performances like Game 1 ...

Dirk and JJ are some bad mofo's.....Durant will be there, but Westbrook and Harden have to show up and stop turning the damn ball over. Dallas relxed and allowed Kidd to defend Russell ONE-ON-ONE and Westbrook kept running to where all the traffic was instead of doing what he does. Harden was solid, but the Dallas bigs were breaking up some of the passes he was getting off in the middle of the lane against MEM, to their credit. I'd like to see him take Terry in the post, even if it isn't his game, just to try to wear the guy down/get him in foul trouble.....here's barely working on defense.

I thought with Schrempf and Perkins' shooting, GP's defense and Kemp's athletic ability they MIGHT pull it off back in '96. Everyone laughed at me when it didn't happen, for obvious reasons, but I didn't care :lol.

That other TMac dunk in Chicago with him riding someone to the ground like a horse (no exaggeration) was sick. Vince had some extremely athletic moves in the air.....Kemp and 'Nique were a bit more violent (backboard breaker-esque) and guys back in those times seemed more willing to try to go for the block/foul which resulted in some sick and-1's.

Dirk was on fire, no doubt, and Serge gave him a lot of room/respect from the gate which resulted in a lot of jumpers in the grill. Serge's main job is to protect the rim, but he's got the footwork to make the shots a little bit more difficult than he did tonight. Dirk's going to get his regardless, but he can't be out there shooting spotup J's either......which he'll do if you consistently give him too much room to work with.
I suspect Brooks is going to mix things up the same way teams have doen with Rose to make take him out of rhythm and make him 2nd guess what he's seeing moving forward, but Serge is still going to get the bulk of that assignment for better or worse.

Nah, there were some dunkers back then. But without the internet or tv coverage as prominent as it is today, we don't remember them as much.
Dr. J could get off the ground. Gervin's finger roll came about because he said he kept hurting his wrist from dunking so much. Darryl Dawkins tearing down rims. Anyone remember Tom Chambers knee lift dunk?
I've seen a lot of basketball since the 90s, enough to know that Howard is NOT the best defensive big man since Russell (just had to get that off my chest. Heard it said some recently) and a lot of guys could flat out get off the ground.
Hell, check out how high Sean Elliott gets off the ground here.
ELrBX1lkN04
Vince has literally dunked OVER guys in games though. And he's thrown down on everyone.
Kemp was a great in game dunker, and his dunks were violent (kind of like Amare in his prime before his injuries). Hell, when people say we hadn't seen a PF dunk like Amare, Kemp was the first name I'd throw out there.
Robinson was a great dunker too, for a 7 footer. Guy could jump out of the jump and had been known to thrown down a 360.

If you can jump over the head of a 7 footer in a game, whether it be in the NBA, International, or even a rec league, you're a bad man.
I saw the likes of Jordan, Kemp, Clyde, even DRob to a point (man what an athlete he was) VC, TMac, Kobe as well as many others in their primes dunking on people.
Vince's dunk over the 7 ft frenchie was the most amazing thing I've ever seen on a basketball court.
91PHBZOIYOs
TMac's dunk on Bradley is 2nd though for me. It's a home game for Dallas, and the call by Kevin Harlan (I think), the viciousness of the dunk, the color analysts just enjoying it and last but certainly not least, the collective and very audible "Ohhhh" from the Dallas fans was just something else. You know the dunk is bad when the road team's player is making the home town fans just gasp and awe like they can't believe what they just saw.
Sorry, I just had to post it again.

The bulk of nique's leaping prime was in the 80's ..i believe he was drafted in 1982 IIRC ...Back in the 80's those guys you mentioned Doc Clyde and a few others could dunk. But most of the best players Magic, Bird, Kareem, Moses, Mullin, Isiah, english and McHale were not leapers.
I love James worthy and he could jump but if he was playing today he would not be anywhere close to one of the most athletic players in the NBA. He still would be very good beciuase of his baseline spin moves and 15 footer ...but worthy was considered one of the most athletic forwards of his day ...he would not be in today's NBA.
dont get me wrong Im not shitting on the 80's it was my favorite decade of ball ...but the caliber of athletes in the NBA has improved two fold. Shooting has gotten worse, but leapers are common place.
