Who is surprised by this?

First I've ever heard about the guy's social behavior. Has this been a pattern of behavior?

So does this mean we'll get a better Spurs beat writer?

I don't know . . . but he is dumb and he looks like he's hungover every time I've seen him.

I've listened to him numerous times on the "Chris & Jason Show" on ESPN 1250 The Zone, and he's often joked about "going home and popping a couple of cold ones" on his downtime between Spurs games or over the summer months. Without knowing the guy personally and because those were seemingly just "off-the-cuff" remarks, it's really hard to read anything into that.

It's the Spurs fault. If they had beaten Memphis like they were supposed to he'd be writing about the Spurs/Mavs series.

I'm not reading into anything. The guy's writing and observations are shallow and lack insight and he looks like hot garbage every time I see him. Therefore, I'm not surprised to hear this news. I'm not saying I knew he was a drunk, I'm just not surprised.

No, I wasn't implying that you were. I just wanted know why you were surprised. Thought perhaps that you had some other inside information.

I hope he can overcome this.

Listen, has any of us never drank some alcohol and driven somewhere? I would guess 95% of us have so I wont dog on the guy for doing this since I myself have. With that said, we all live and learn from our mistakes and thankfully nobody was injured with this. I had no problem with mcdonald before this nor would I have a problem with him coming back covering the spurs.

there is a difference between drinking some alcohol and driving and swerving all over the road. Children could have been killed. Think of the little ones.

I know a "recovering" alcoholic, and he mentions drinking all the time.

Jeff's "often" mentioning drinking could easily mean he's "often" thinking about drinking. not too hard to read it that way.

Problem drinkers, like problem drug users, are obsessed with their habit.

It's not like he was driving through a school zone. He got caught, he'll pay his fine and hopefully learn to take cab when he drinks. It's not a big deal unless you do it twice.

I've been saying from the very beginning that jeff macdonald sucks as the spurs sports writers. He brings nothing new in his articles, probably skims through spurstalk and lifts insight from knowledgeable posters here, and often fucks up the facts. Now he has a DWI and i'll tell you one thing about DWI's, it is not your first time drinking and driving when you finally get your first DWI, you've been doing it for a while and only now did you finally get caught. I hope he moves on, i dont wish him ill will or anything, but i think the spurs beat writer should be a real fan who wants it more and takes pride in the product he puts out.

No, I don't drive if I have had anything more than 1 beer. I hope McDonald has to pay out the ass for such a stupid decision.

Poor decision making. I hope he gets over this fast.

I do doubt the Spurs franchise will allow him to be around mostly because of the values they promote. Even if he's not a direct employee from them, I bet they do have a say with SAEN of who hangs with them team etc...

Considering Holt himself is a recovering alcoholic, I wouldn't be surprised if they let this slide as long as it doesn't become behavioral.

So long as it's not a chronic behavior trait, I hope he gets the chance to prove he can overcome this.
