The Thrashers have been a financial bust in Georgia and the Spirit has been trying to unload the franchise, but news comes from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Hawks are also on the block (http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-hawks/spirit-also-pursuing-hawks-949288.html).
"The Spirit, in the process of negotiating a deal that would send the hockey team to Winnipeg, also is in talks about a possible separate sale of the basketball Hawks, who would remain in Atlanta," the paper reports.
Outgoing San Diego Padres (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sdg/) owner John Moores is in exclusive talks with the Spirit to snag the Hawks and the Philips Arena operating rights, sources tell the paper, though "a deal is not close" and "it's far from assured one will get done."
Meanwhile, the Thrashers sale to True North Sports and Entertainment progresses and no viable buyer has appeared that wants to keep the team in Atlanta, the paper notes.
