McDonald's restaurants in Europe will soon be swapping the chain's legendary "service with a smile" with "service with a beep." European McDonald's restaurants are preparing to replace cashiers with touch screen computers at terminals where customers will be able to order up their hamburgers and fries and pay with credit cards.

Most McD's only have two or three cashiers working at one time and when I do go inside it usually is one. They will still need them to cook and run the drive thru window and maintenance. There will be some lost positions though.

Actually, I've never seen a McDonald's do this. They all have their ingredients in these little drawers and make each sandwich to order. Granted, the patties are pre-cooked and sitting in warming trays but they AREN'T pre-built. In fact, the only fast food place I can think of that has pre-built burgers is this shitty Burger King kiosk at my college. Those nasty fucks premake burgers and then throw them in the microwave when they are ordered. Nasty shit.

They've had a touch screen ordering system at the Burger King in Terminal A at Atlanta Hartsfield for over two years now.

You can still order from a cashier if you want, but they have three touchscreen machines where you can order your food.

It's basically a digitized version of the overhead menu, and does have pics of the various meals. Then you can click on a button to change your toppings on your burger if you want.

Guessing McD's will go the same way.

In my one summer of McDonald's labor I never intentionally botched a special order, but the basic philosophy of some of the kitchen vets was that getting special orders right boiled down to whether or not they gave a damn that day and most days they didn't. Btw, why do soccer moms suck so much at buying groceries and driving? Those are like the only 2 things they need to be good at in life (and attending PTA meetings I guess), and most soccer moms are a disaster on wheels when they drive and always require the most attention from the self-checkout helper when checking out.

Its not difficult they just don't give a fuck, if the customer doesn't like it they can go somewhere else. Which they won't cause they are either too lazy or cheap
