View Full Version : Three times San Antonio should have played the Heat in the Finals.

2005 - The Heat had a 3-2 lead on the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals, but Detroit improbably came back to win the series, 4-3. Spurs played the Pistons instead.

2006 - If it weren't for Manu's foul on Dirk, the Spurs would almost certainly have gone on to defeat Phoenix again in the WCF and met Miami in the Finals.

2011 - The Spurs were upset by the Grizzlies. Granted, there's no guarantee San Antonio would have made it to the Finals, seeing as how wacky this year's playoffs have turned out to be (probably playing the Mavs or Lakers or both,) but we were the 1# conference seed and stood as good a chance as any.

I'm sure the Spurs would have completely dominated Miami in any of these three could-have-been Finals matchups.

The Grizzilies just matched up well against the Spurs. OKC could barely handle them, although that was mostly because Westbrook was chucking over 20 shots a game and Durant was too much of a pussy to demand the ball.

2011 NO........... Just No.

BTW the 05 Pistons team was no joke man, no reason why they should not have made the finals as tough as they were! That team was DEEP.

:lol 10-11 Spurs beating the Heat

Not even close. The Heat would have stopped the Spurs offense and we would hate Bonner and RJ even more if this series happened.

I agree with 05 and 06 but not 11...Spurs wouldent have been able to get past the Mavericks or Thunder.

TRUE TO LIFE SHIT THERE! Period.

BTW LIKE I SAID D TOWN IS NO JOKE! Why are some sleeping because they are down 3-2 they should have lost that? 04 Pistons down 3-2 to INDY! They came back and stomped them out and then LA in 5, that team right there was tough, we as fans should remember that and they took us to 7! Best starting 5 in the L in 04-05, no doubt.

You can jostle the teams however you like and say this or that team should play some other team. It's pointless. You and I are both a blowjob away from non-existence. Why fuck with it?

Pat Riley actually had a quote the following season saying the Spurs were one foul away from winning the Championship. I recall him saying that when they played the Spurs in a regular season game the next season. I wonder if he thought the Spurs were the best team too or if he was just saying that for other reasons. Personally I don't care what Mavs fans say, but I always say the Spurs were better that season than both Miami and Dallas.

Make that 4 times. IIRC, the Heat were the #1 seed that lost to the Knicks in 1999? So you could say they were the front runners to go to the Finals that year too.

We would've destroyed the Heat in 2006.

Really, if it wasn't for Dallas, or the Lakers, or the Suns or the Grizzlies, Spurs would be working on their 13th straight championship right now.

That's kind of like saying that if it weren't for the Celtics, the Lakers would have ring #27 by now. :lol

I hate to bring this shit up all the time, but those 10-11 Spurs ya'll so easily dismiss held the following win-loss records:

25-3 on Dec 22
44-8 on Feb 10
57-13 on Mar 21

They were a fucking juggernaut. Pretty sad we've already forgotten.

The Spurs beat the Heat by 30 points in one game. (The Heat did the same to the Spurs, too.)

What makes you think either team wouldn't be capable of defeating the other in the Finals?

The simple fact the regular season means nothing in the playoffs. Heat got destroyed by Boston, Chicago and Dallas in the regular season too. Look how that's played out...
