E3 starts Tuesday. Whats everyone looking forward to? Predictions? I'm interested in seeing Nintendos new console. I expect it to have a bunch of diverse and clumsy options because thats what Nintendo does, leaving me interested only in an academic sense. Because, really, fuck the Wii and most everything they've done in the last 6 years or so. I want to see more of bioshock infinite. I think it'll easily win game of show. Would like to know what bungie and the respawn people are up to and I'm hoping for some mass effect 3 footage.

Personally, I really want to see if Just Cause 3 is announced. I can't remember the last time I put 100 hrs in a game, trying to 100% it and waste countless hours just fucking around in its world.

The thing I like about the Vita is that Sony is supporting it with a lot of casual, pick-up games instead of porting every PS2/PS3 franchises like they did with the PSP.

I wanna see NBA, FIFA, NFL games on that thing as well. That Virtua Tennis, pool game, Stardust, Modnation Racers, and LBP games look as great pick up games as well. I'm not really a big fan of UC being on there and God of War. Those games aren't really meant for the handheld but if Sony keeps supporting the casual games on it, I think it'll do well.

We've reached the point of diminishing returns in terms of graphics from one generation to the next generation. For example, the jump was big from PSX to PS2 (3D graphics). Then from PS2 to PS3 the jump wasn't as big yet jagged edges became smoother and worlds became bigger. Now from PS3 to PS4, sure things are going to be better but it won't be such a big WOW factor as we've seen in the past. I'm guessing the WiiU is like around a PS3 1/2 at the most while we wait for Sony and Microsoft to bring out their systems.

The graphics curve is leveling out, Nintendo knows this. That's why they're taking another approach and trying to innovate using the controllers.

BTW this E3 was a total shit fest. First person shooters galore. How many fucking military shooters do we need in the world?

The dragons are what will be the most badass thing about skyrim. I really liked how he got help fighting it from a random nearby guard in the gameplay demo. This should present interesting choices in how/if you should fight them since their appearance is random

For instance, maybe you're by yourself in the woods when one approaches. You're not strong enough to take him on yet so you run and hide. Or, at the same level, you're nearby other NPCs when it attacks. This allows you to possibly defeat it since you have help.

60,000 lines of dialogue. 300+ hours of gameplay. Dragons. Oh yeah, and Dragons. Can't fucking wait

The other game I was really happy to see is Farcry3. I liked FC2 despite it's shortcomings, especially the open world gameplay. Looks like they've addressed some concerns about the second one by adding fast-travel and more RPG elements.

Before E3 2011 I was convinced the new Nintendo console would shit on the 360/PS3 and force their hands to get moving on a new console and show it off at E3 2012 for a 2013 release date. The other game I was really happy to see is Farcry3. I liked FC2 despite it's shortcomings, especially the open world gameplay. Looks like they've addressed some concerns about the second one by adding fast-travel and more RPG elements.
FarCry3 looks good and if they add fast-travel it will be great. I always thought FarCry2 was a little boring because you had to walk/drive long distances just to complete another repetitive mission.

I hope Mass Effect 3 doesn't have those planets to harvest minerals, that was time consuming and boring as well.

It's a pretty limited number of channels, primarily locals. They didn't give a specific line up during the press conference, but I would be VERY surprised if they had cable channels available. At least without an existing subscription to some other cable service. I got the impression you wouldn't be able use it to watch much that you couldn't already see for free with a normal antenna.

On my first ME2 playthrough, I raped every single fucking planet thinking I would need it. Turns out, you barely needed any of it. One of the worst additions to any game, ever. IMO.

Not sure they should bring back the Rover, but at least it was fun driving off the sides of mountains and blowing shit up. Hopefully they can figure out an element that is both fun and not immersion killing like scanning was.

You may be right about the PC being an afterthought, but there are more games created for the PC in one month than all consoles put together.

Check Steam out sometime. There is so much variety and indie development most of the successful stuff gets ported to the console marketplace via PSN and Live (and vice versa, Spolsion Man, Braid, etc).

Also, if you think Skyrim is best played on anything but a PC, there is really nothing more to discuss. That version of Oblivion you may have played on consoles sucked donkey-dick compared to the PC version. Same with any shooter, ever, the best RPGs are always on PC (unless you want to harken back to the Dragon Quest days and FF7), the only RTS even available on consoles that I can think of is CivRev which is a dumbed-down cartoon of Civ4 (which I admittedly enjoy) so thats an entire genre of games youll never play on a console, etc.

It is an afterthought, I admit. But every game thats available for both consoles and PC are always best played and experienced on a PC. I loooooong for the day when console gamers can play against PC gamers in any competitive game, whether RTS or Shooter. There is a reason every time its tried, its scrapped because the moment you put someone with a controller up against someone with M+K, the only chance the console player has is based on coded aim assists.

As for the casualization of the console market, I don't think it's as bad as most "hardcore" gamers would have you believe. One of two things can happen. The first is that the casual gamers get bored with the motion control gimmicks in a few years and go back to playing Angry Birds on their phones. The second is that the casual gimmicks introduce them to the more loved, advanced titles which then turns them into "hardcore" gamers. The whole motion control thing is a gimmick, and the big 3 are trying to get their money from it while they still can.

You're correct Vegas was developed by Obsidian, and published by Bethesda, but the engine used was Bethesda's Fallout 3 engine (a successor of the Oblivion engine). That said, looking at Fallout 3 and Oblivion, Bethesda does seem to have higher QA standards.

You may be right about the PC being an afterthought, but there are more games created for the PC in one month than all consoles put together.

Check Steam out sometime. There is so much variety and indie development most of the successful stuff gets ported to the console marketplace via PSN and Live (and vice versa, Spolsion Man, Braid, etc).

Also, if you think Skyrim is best played on anything but a PC, there is really nothing more to discuss. That version of Oblivion you may have played on consoles sucked donkey-dick compared to the PC version. Same with any shooter, ever, the best RPGs are always on PC (unless you want to harken back to the Dragon Quest days and FF7), the only RTS even available on consoles that I can think of is CivRev which is a dumbed-down cartoon of Civ4 (which I admittedly enjoy) so thats an entire genre of games youll never play on a console, etc.

It is an afterthought, I admit. But every game thats available for both consoles and PC are always best played and experienced on a PC. I loooooong for the day when console gamers can play against PC gamers in any competitive game, whether RTS or Shooter. There is a reason every time its tried, its scrapped because the moment you put someone with a controller up against someone with M+K, the only chance the console player has is based on coded aim assists.

BTW, RTS and shooters are two genres that bore me to death so that's probably why I haven't played a PC game in a looooooooong time. My last system that I built was a AMD 2500 with a Radeon 9500 Pro. Yeah it's been a good six, seven years and I dread the days when I needed to change the voltage of my system to overclock my system for a couple of frames, have a couple of fans in the case to suck out the heat, edit the ini of the game to make sure it's been optimized for my system and use modded drivers that have been messed around with to make sure I'm squeezing ever juice I can out of it. I don't miss the days of the 500 MB patch (those patches are bigger nowadays right?) for the system to make sure video cards are being supported and the developers have patched the game with a "10% improvement for X cards".

Sure Skyrim is going to be best played on the PC but I'm not a graphics whore (no offense to anyone) so I don't care. Give me the Uncharted games any day of the week instead of an RTS or FPS. I can basically lay down on the couch with my controller in hand and not worry where I have to lay down the keyboard and mouse. But these are all my preferences on why I enjoy consoles over PCs but there are good things going for the PCs and there are good things for the consoles.

Consoles as we know it today are going to be obsolete in the next decade or so due to cloud gaming so there's that as well.

You're correct Vegas was developed by Obsidian, and published by Bethesda, but the engine used was Bethesda's Fallout 3 engine (a successor of the Oblivion engine). That said, looking at Fallout 3 and Oblivion, Bethesda does seem to have higher QA standards.

It's called the Gamebryo engine, and while true that it's dated, it's also exceptionally easy to mod. I still play both FO3 and FNV. FNV isn't buggy at all anymore (on PC), since the modding community has addressed many of the problems, including touching up the graphics.
