I know this will be of interest to so many here :lol

One of the cool things about Trinity sports is that, while the school may not offer athletic scholarships, athletes do have the chance to compete in a conference that offers quite a bit of travel, stretching from Colorado Springs to SA, Austin, Dallas, and across the South all the way to Atlanta. That's a huge conference for Division III, where most teams travel by bus rather than plane to the great majority of their contests. Today, suddenly saying that the conference is just too big, the seven members located east of Texas are announcing that they're pulling out to form their own (as of yet unnamed) conference. The story (http://bit.ly/iiyr6p) was broken by a newspaper in Arkansas; God forbid the Express-News give a damn about Trinity.

This leaves what's left of the "Southern" Athletic Conference - Trinity, Southwestern, Austin College, University of Dallas, and Colorado College - in a world of hurt, because the NCAA says you have to have seven teams to get a playoff bid in any sport. They'll have a couple of years to find more schools - perhaps picking some off from the American Southwest, the only likely source given where the conference now finds itself - but there is no doubt the seven schools who suddenly jumped ship put the screws to the others in a major way.
