Very sad news. He was one of the best to ever put on the Silver and Black. Kinda underrated if you ask me. Prayers go out to his family. May you rest in peace Mike.

- "From William Shakespeare, Richard the Third, a small excerpt. The line reads, 'He has come to open the purple testament of bleeding war.' And for Lieutenant William Fitzgerald, A Company, First Platoon, the testament is closed. Lieutenant Fitzgerald has found the Twilight Zone."

I tend to take the other approach. Since it was clear he was not going to recover, I am actually glad that he passed, as to take away anymore suffering he and his family had to endure.

He will always be one of my favorite Spurs of all-time....RIP Mitch

New school posters new to get familiar with the man, who broke George Gervin's consecutive season streak as the Spurs perennial leading scorer. The man affectionately known as "Mitch", who possessed one of the sweetest baseline J's the NBA has ever seen.

In his prime, he was one of the better pure scorers in the NBA. He worked with at-risk or trouble young teens to help them get onto the right track in their lives. He made his mistakes in life but he recovered, he learned from them and encouraged others not to make those same mistakes.

Here's to one of the great Spurs! Mike Mitchell.

Having been through a series of cancer deaths in my family, yeah, I totally understand that.
RIP, Mike.

I'm grateful that I got see him play. Did he participate in the Spurs championship celebrations as other former Spurs did? I hope so.

His "Master of the mid-range" game is now pretty much a lost art in today's NBA. I think he deserves to mentioned along with other great mid-rangers such as Adrian Dantley and Bernard King.

Remembering and celebrating Mike Mitchell :flag:

Mike was one of the best Spurs ever, Id say in the top 6. A good man off the court as well. His number should have been retired years ago. RIP Mike.

Exactly. From all accounts I've ever heard, in addition to being a perennial all-star caliber-type player, Mitch was an absolute sweetheart of a guy. He always appreciated fan support and always took time out for autographs or even just to "chew the fat" with a total stranger. Additionally, he was very active in the community. He was just a good-hearted, charitable, down-to-earth, family man.
