Charles and Jill Segal have not made a mortgage payment in nearly five years -- but they continue to live in their five-bedroom West Palm Beach, Fla. home.

Lynn, from St. Petersburg, Fla., has been living without paying for three years.

In Thousand Oaks, Calif., an actor has missed 30 payments, and still, he has not lost his home.

They're not alone.

The original meaning meaning of possession: potestas, "power' plus fr. essoin, 'sitting.'

Like Ernie Kaulbach used to say in his English legal language class:

if you put your ass on it, it's yours.

Sometimes rendered:

Piss on a roll or eat it, it's yours.

That one lady who owes over 600,000 on a 235,000 loan - wouldn't the smart thing be just to walk away from that situation? Don't corporations do that all the time?
