I think the Knicks will clean house next year and I'm betting they cut Malik loose.

crazy talk. they could trade him for something if they wanted to get rid of him.

and he's the hustle and desire they need to get the youngins up to speed.

Did you just post this in the other thread?

How can Malik sign here?

He's already signed for a few more years so he would have to be traded back.

I don't see it happening though.

If the Knicks can't use him, why would we want him --and his salary--back? :rolleyes

Scola's buyout doesn't preclude him from being a spur next year.

depends of the new cba

Lol they aren't going to lower our ability to help with buyouts. If anything the owners would raise that level, since more and more teams are going to be facing these types of situations. You really think the players will hold out on buyout limits?

/plus the cap is going up.

they are talking about not having the mle the way it is now
they would have 2 smaller ones
that would effect scola

SilverPlayer

That would effect our ability to sign Rose too. Besides I was under the impression that Scola's buyout was on a decreasing scale. Either way half of the MLE would be more than Scola is making now.

the perfect offseason for me would be......... If somehow the spurs found a way to possibly extend Nazr, re-sign big dog, bring in Scola, re-sign Devin. Now the Spurs have pulled off miracles before, if they did that it would be another miracle.

Scola is ten times better than Malik right now, Malik was good way bak when, but now Scola is the better pick.

:lol Great thread.

The only way Malik re-signs with the Spurs is to be the ball boy.

Some contract info on Malik:
Signed to 7-year, $42 million deal in 2002 off-season.
This concludes his third season under that contract. The opt-out comes two years from now. (Is that at player or team option??)

By that time, perhaps Malik would be looking for a comfortable place to come play another year at a low rate before retiring. So, summer 2007, there could be an realistic chance for Malik to return economically.

I'd be all for it then, just for sentimentality and locker room presence.

After all, the Spurs were willing to, over the course of a couple years, basically trade Derek Anderson, Antonio Daniels and Charles "Spider" Smith (who was making a decent impact at the time before disappearing to ... ?) for a single year's use of Steve Smith, who did little more than provide locker room presence for the 2003 championship run. (I'm leaving out Steve Kerr's involvement in those two trades, since he left then came back.)

I think Malik could be the Kerr/Smith kind of momentary impact player. Sit on the bench all season, then come in and do a Cinderella story in a pivotal playoff game.

So, Malik returns in 2007? I wouldn't bet against it yet.
