Those to me are shoe in. And yes, I said in the All-NBA team thread that Durant getting first team over Dirk was scandalous, even with Dirk's injury.

I think Kobe is still 5th. This postseason left me unimpressed with Rose and Durant to be honest. If he's healthy CP3 gives Kobe a run for that 5th spot. The other 4 will still be there.

Stats > everything, obviously.

Forget about the ability to play under pressure and allow a chucking point guard to be your closer.

Or how Melo is a mismatch for everyone guarding him and is a better basketball player overall, his defense is underrated. Melo actually plays d in the playoffs, outplayed Kobe in the western finals, and isn't made of skin and bones. Dude is strong, and just better.

There really isn't an argument between the two at this point in time.

Kobe's defense has obviously fallen off from a decline in his athleticism but he is still a great 1 on 1 defender and when he exerts effort is still an elite defender overall. Unlike Wade, or James... Kobe was actually a lockdown defender in his career who didn't just rely on athleticism and steals/blocks to be considered a good defender.

And obviously, I know Kobe getting the 1st team all D award is bs, ESPECIALLY when it's a regular season reward where Kobe doesn't put much effort into D except on a couple of plays again.

I love how Skip always bashes Lebron for going to play with Wade in Miami. But that anaolgy is retarded to his point that Lebron felt he needed tons of help to win rings. Wade who Skip loves felt the exact same way. He told the Heat, "get me Bosh and my buddy Lebron or i am going to Chicago".. So Wade at 29 knew damn well he needed shit loads of help the next 4 or 5 years to win another ring or 2..

The only three shoe-ins for the top 5 are Dirk, Wade, and Kobe (no particular order). For the last two spots, you could make a reasonable argument for Howard, LeBron, Durant, Rose, and healthy CP3. Take your pick.

I can easily see why Rose and Durant are out of the top 5 in some people's lists. They were both slightly disappointing during the playoffs. Their physical game is all there, they just need to get smarter out there.

What I can't understand is a lot of people leaving Howard out. I think you can make the best case that he is the top player in the league right now. Top 5 should be automatic for him.

And yes, it's only fair that LeBron's stock as the unquestioned number one goes down after a very shitty Finals.
