Do you guys think this is a big step up for Ellenberger or big drop in competition for Shields?

I know it's free, but man, what a shitty card. I only want to see Court McGee because he's a Utah boy, and that's about it. Who gives a shit about any of those other fights?

I'm excited to see Belcher's return to the octagon. Of course the main event of Shields/Ellenberger. Jonathan Brookins vs. Erik Koch and Shamar Bailey vs. Evan Dunham are also interesting fights.

Again I've seen plenty of cards with no "big names" that turn out to have some of the best fights.

Lopez Tonight! Jorge Lopez Signs with the UFC, Fights Justin Edwards at UFC Fight Night 25

Tachi Palace Fights welterweight Jorge Lopez has signed with the UFC and is booked to fight Justin Edwards at UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou.

Lopez announced the fight via his Twitter account on Thursday night, thanking Joe Silva and Dana White for the opportunity in his status update.

Lopez, who most recently fought in the Tachi Palace Fights promotion, is 11-1 and currently on a 10-fight win-streak. The 170-pound fighter, who goes by the moniker “Lil’ Monster,” is a talented prospect from the Wand Fight Team and looks to make waves in the UFC’s welterweight division.

Edwards is currently 6-1 with five of his wins coming by submission. The only loss on his record came by split decision in his UFC debut when Edwards fought Clay Harvison at the Ultimate Fighter Finale 13 this past June.

DaMarques Johnson, Mackens Semerzier scratched from UFC Fight Night 25

The UFC needs two fighters to compete in New Orleans, as welterweight DaMarques Johnson (12-9 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and featherweight Mackens Semerzier (6-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) have been forced to bow out of separate contests at UFC Fight Night 25.

UFC officials today announced the late scratches and revealed replacements are being sought for the Sept. 17 event.

Johnson was expected to face Clay Harvison while Semerzier was slated to meet Mike Lullo.

TUF 9 star DaMarques Johnson has been injured and forced to withdraw from the welterweight bout against TUF 13 fighter Clay Harvison. Stepping in for Johnson is Seth Baczynski from season 11 of TUF.

Also on the September fight card, welterweight Justin Edwards from TUF 13 will welcome Jorge Lopez to the UFC.

In non-TUF-related fight card news, Mackens Semerzier has also been injured and is out of his battle against Mike Lullo. A replacement will be announced soon.

The GSP opponent curse continues!

I really don't understand WHY Shields thought he'd make a good UFC WW. If nothing else, he seemed to be the perfect candidate to improve on Chael's gameplan to beat Silva...great BJJ, solid chin from the Hendo fight, and great wrestling. His camp is full of dummies. They killed his cred in the last 3 fights, hope he tries to go back to MW.

“He might be one opponent away from a title shot. The opponent they’re talking about him fighting, if he beats him or knocks him out, it’s going to be hard not to give him the next title shot,” Belcher’s manager, Malki Kawa, teased when speaking to MMAWeekly Radio.

“I think it’s two fights away to stay conservative and be more realistic, but there’s a great fight on the horizon for Alan Belcher.”

While Kawa stayed tight lipped on the potential match-up, he promised that if it came to fruition a win for Belcher would definitely send him rocketing up the middleweight rankings.

“It’s a top guy at 185, stylistically it’s got ‘Fight of the Night’ written all over it,” said Kawa.

When looking over the top ten list in the middleweight division, several fighters are already booked for fights, but one name that stands out is former UFC champion Vitor Belfort.

“When I talk to Joe (Silva), it’s ‘who does he need to beat to get a shot at the title?’ There’s a couple of names mentioned. Vitor (Belfort) was one of them, and to be honest with you, I love that fight, and I’ll tell you this, Alan loves that fight,” Kawa stated.

Belfort, however, isn’t the only name on the list. Prior to his injury, Belcher had been matched up with grappling ace Demian Maia, who just recently defeated Jorge Santiago at UFC 136, and there are still other possibilities that exist beyond that as well.

“He’s one of about three or four guys we’ve been talking about internally,” Kawa said about Belfort and other potential match-ups for Belcher.

Whoever it ends up being, Belcher wants to face a top ten opponent so he can climb further up the ladder and hopefully reach his ultimate goal: A UFC title shot.
