POLITICS BUZZ New York State Senator Roy McDonald, one of a handful of Republicans bucking their own party who will vote to legalize gay marriage in the state of New York, got sick and tired of being pushed around by gay marriage opponents. He released a statement to the press with the following quote:

"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," McDonald, 64, told reporters."You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing."

"I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."

FWIW

The f-bomb was not that of Mr. McDonald, from what I read. It was that of the blogger, injected as an "this is what he is really saying" bit to show some "in between the lines" context.

All the quotes I've seen so far attribute it to him.

Maybe there are a miraculous few Repugs who refuse to be intimidated by the tea bagger/evangelical/obstructionist asshole fringe.

His "right thing" is very weak, and too "moral". How about "equal rights" and government not imposing asshole fringe "morals" on anybody?

And fuck Bishop Dolan, too. :lol

The Catholic Church as lost all moral credibility. It's just another self-preserving political organization hiding behind "Religion".

There's a strong ad campaign from gay marriage supporters going on in the city right now.

one guy doesn't like it.

Former New York Giants receiver David Tyree's celebrated catch in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XLII was pivotal to his team's victory. Now out of football, he is trying to claim a last-minute win over another foe -- same-sex marriage.

On the same day that the New York State Assembly approved a same-sex marriage bill, Tyree warned of dire consequences if the legislation becomes law.

The bill's passage would "be the beginning of our country sliding toward ... anarchy," he said

I'm sure that a ton of shit will get dumped on him shortly if it hasn't already.

Gov Cuomo is pushing hard for it (it's his bill). We'll know soon enough what happens.

Mayor Bloomberg is also a big supporter and he's the single biggest financial supporter of the Republican Senate caucus in the city. So, if it doesn't pass now, it's going to be hard to pass it later.
