Do the Spurs win a title instead of the Mavs?

THIS year?

No.

Axe Murderer
06-20-2011, 12:55 PM
yeah 2011 Tim Duncan

(Tim's classiness has to be factored in as well)

Well, I was sure his classiness ALONE would at least get us to the 2nd round.

Nah, not 2011 TD.

But what if we give Dirk the 2011 Spurs. Does he win the title ?

Leetonidas

No.

But 1999, 2003, and 2005 Dirk would not have won a title in Duncan's place. 2007 is debatable but I still lean towards no

they sweep the heat

current spurs team dont even have a legitimate big to play alongside duncan, and a pg who didnt believe

mavs have like 2-3 bigs available, and a couple perimeter defenders who can still keep up with players or just hand out hard vet fouls...

In 2007

yes..

Nah, not 2011 TD.

But what if we give Dirk the 2011 Spurs. Does he win the title ?

No. Having a legit center tandem to pair next to Dirk did wonders for them. Plus he had good wing defenders in Stevenson, Kidd, and Marion. Could you imagine how much more we'd get killed playing Memphis with a frontline rotation of Dirk, Bonner, Blair, and Dice? :depressed

If you give the Spurs Chandler/Haywood and give the Mavericks Blair/Bonner then the Spurs are probably winning the title.

In the end it's really about how the team around the main guy fits and the Mavericks are built perfectly around him, much like the 2003 Spurs around Duncan.

It depends-

In your hypothetical world; has this 2011 Mav TD and the 2011 Mav supporting roster won in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007 and played long ass summers? If yes, then no 2011 Mav TD and 2011 Mavs do not win because 2011 Mav Duncan still has the same wear and tear on his body as he did being 2011 Spur Duncan. If 2011 Mav Duncan never won the ship before then yes he and 2011 support Mavs roster win because (a) not tired (b) desperate to win to shut up all his critics so they won't call him a choker anymore :cry

Interesting question, do you imagine a Nowitzki/Bonner front court or a Blair Nowitzki one? We would have to bring Chandler too to protect Dirk's ass to even have a chance.

But if Dirk had Parker and Ginobli and Robinson over his career he would have 3-5 rings

Nope

Duncan was struggling to get 10pts a game, Dirk avg 25pts a game in his sleep in the postseason

big difference

Offensively, Dallas would not have been as good. But Chandler and Duncan on the front line would have made it difficult for anyone to score on them.

The real question is...could Dirk have won with Matt Bonner?

Duncan doesnt win in 2011.

The entire Mavs roster is build around Dirks skillset. The entire offense plays off Dirk...thats why the offense looked like TRASH in the games Dirk was out with injury.

The Mavs defense was great this postseason, Duncan wouldnt change it that much. But the entire offense would jump off a cliff if you replace Dirk with Duncan.

Duncan was the game changer on both ends of the floor on those teams! If the Mavs have Tim in 06 they have their ring already! Duncan in his prime was just a beast on blocks, rebounds and in the paint! He had a shot as well! Dirk went off offensive wise in these playoffs no doubt, he is a great shooter but all around his game would not make a team as good as Tim could make you in his prime! Tim in his prime was on another planet than most.

No. Dirk did a lot of heavy weight-lifting.
