It's a great deal for the Wolves IMO. There is no question the Bynum when healthy is a beast. Sure the health is a question mark, but I'll take my chances with a young proven beast with some concerns than a dicey watered down draft.

It's about cap space for next year, imho. D-Will will replace Odom (eventually) and Howard will replace Bynum (come 2013). This would be perfect. Youth and an even better upgrade at the 5. The Lakers are still interested in Felton too, who has one year remaining on his 7.5 mil deal.

2013 starters:

Felton
Bryant
Artest (he's probably gone by then, though)
Gasol
Howard

D-Will as 6th man

Agreed. It's not nearly enough. Throw in Flynn, Randolph and/or Johnson and CAP relief (taking back Artest or Blake for Pekovic) and maybe. Still don't think you trade 7-foot for 6-8 when the latter is widely considered a borderline All-Star prospect.

ElNono

That's just not possible, IMO. You need to match salaries. Bynum is set to make $13m this season. Lakers would need to take on as much money, at least this season. That's a lot of money to fill up with scrub players.

It's not happening, but not because it's impossible. It's possible, just to complex and I still think the Lakers are trading Bynum for Howard eventually.

In order to waive Webster and Pekovic they would need to pay up 9m+... that's a lot of dough for flexibility. On top of that, you would need to fill up those spots, meaning you would need to spend even more.

Then don't waive them. The deal would work, and they aren't taking on any additional salary, are getting younger and more athletic at three positions for the future and clear 2013 CAP for a run at Howard.

Hell, Webster would probably have some value to a team at the deadline since he has some playoff experience, is a vet at a reasonable price and is done next season.

LA should just offer Gasol for Love/#2/filler and see if a desperate Minny bites (which I think they might). They pull it off or something like it and they'll be in a great position to send Bynum/Odom/1sts for Howard/Nelson and reload around Howard/Love/Williams/Kobe/Nelson... I think some variation could actually happen should LA pursue it. Even if they had to give up Love with Bynum for Howard/Nelson, those two with Kobe, Odom and Williams is still really good.

Shit, I'm not even a Lakers fan. I just know Kahn is stupid and desperate, which is a bad combination, and that Orlando would likely make the deal for Bynum/Odom/1sts or Bynum/Williams or, worst case, Bynum/Love for Howard.

If they could make that deal, I would agree they wouldn't waive them and see if they can make them work for this season. I'm sure the coach transition won't be immediate either, so you kind of use this season to work on that, and work the phones to either trade those expirings, or just let them go and get the cap room the year after.

All that said... I just don't see why Minny would throw all those expirings for an injury prone guy like Bynum, when they already have two towers in Love/Milicic.

Because they covet a real defensive presence, which neither Milicic or Love are. Bynum adds that. He's also still young. Minny has been linked to 3rd/4th-tier bigs like Robin Lopez and JaVale McGee for the #2 pick. You don't think they'd jump at the chance to net a player of Bynum's potential for a #2 pick in a weak draft, a PG who's soon to be a backup, a couple of bench players and a few expiring nobodies? I love Williams, but if you're Minnesota, you make that trade, then trade high on Beasley for a SG or a lottery pick (Klay Thompson?) If the Suns could trade the #13 for Beasley, they would.

But it isn't just for the #2 pick in a weak draft. They're killing $13 million in cap-space in the process and giving away basically almost every expiring contract they have. Despite what 21_Palins says, Bynum just isn't that good.

You act like anybody is going to go to Minnesota worth a damn. Bynum makes sense. Kahn has very little semblance of a plan, but pairing Love with Bynum is a really strong frontcourt for the future, answers a pressing need for defense, and Minnesota has so much redundancy at certain positions, this helps by ridding them of a bunch of likely seldom-played backups, even if some are still young.

Amaso

Bynum would be the #1 pick in this draft. I doubt the Lakers are truly dumb enough to trade a proven NBA player, even though he can be fragile, for a guy with potential to just be a 3rd or 4th option at best on a championship team, who doesn't have nearly the defensive capabilities that Bynum does.

I'll give you that Khan is an idiot, and that absolutely makes anything possible.
Minny isn't going anywhere. Bynum isn't the missing piece that's turning a 17 wins team into a contender. Which is exactly why you don't throw the house at Bynum. This isn't just the #2 pick. It's their entire flexibility to build a team around Love. Minny needs much more than another center. They need a solid SG + a decent backup SG. They need a decent backup PG.

The pick would be a perk, I would think. It would be about dumping Bynum's salary so they can have some cap relief to build a bench.

TPups and Raptors are the two obvious ones. Whorenets if they lose CP3 and suck afterwards (as long as they're a playoff team tho they should stay), and then go from there. IMO, the NBA could stand to get rid of 5-10 teams. There isn't enough NBA talent out there to supply 30 teams, I think close to half of the teams had a negative net income in 2010, and players are being massively overpaid because of how hard it is to get all star talent.

Atlanta, Charlotte, and Clippers as well. There's six teams. All the players go on these teams get pooled into a supplemental draft where the position is determined based upon the last 5-year%, with the bottom 5 teams going into a lottery. NBA increases the team rosters to 16 for two years as a transition.

Think of the talent!

Paul, Okafor, West, Landry, Griffin, Gordon, Jordon, Kaman, Love, Beasley, Randolph, Johnson, Flynn, Rubio, Smith, Johnson, Horford, Williams, Crawford, Bayless, Bargnani, Derozan, Davis, Diaw, Augustin, etc... Enough for everyone left to net one impact player, and probably two rotation players.

DUNCANownsKOBE

Clippers turn a profit every year so as much as I think they provide nothing you can't get rid of a team that's surviving on its own.

Cavs are the other team I'd contract if they can't survive post-Lebron. The Pistons have so much history so I'm hesitant to mention them, but if they keep going in the same direction another few years they need to be considered.

As far as contracting I agree we should do away with the Raptors, Hornets, Bobcats, Hawks, Clippers, Timberwolves, and until this season I'd say the Grizz. Cleveland would be a candidate but hopefully Irving can get them back to relevancy.

The Wizards are another shitty team. Change their name back or just get rid of them.
