View Full Version : Mike Brown wants Varejao

Bruce Wayne

Brown coached Varejao during all five of Brown’s seasons in Cleveland, and not surprisingly, grew to love Varejao’s defense, energy and attitude. Now that Brown has been hired as Phil Jackson’s replacement with the Lakers, sources say he is trying to convince the Lakers front office to see what it would take to bring Varejao to L.A.

Now, none of this is to say the Lakers will follow through. There is no hard evidence that they have contacted the Cavs about the man known as “Wild Thing,” or that they ever will. But as one Lakers insider said, it almost makes too much sense not to explore.

Unless your getting Bynum, Gasol or Odom in return.....why would Cleveland made such a deal?

Bynum for Varejao :lol

Classic "hate him til he's on your team" kind of guy. Might be the heir to Vlade as a flopping big man.

It's all rumors and conjecture apparently but I'm curious to see what the Lakers would offer. Pretty funny if Brown's already decided he doesn't like Bynum.

tbh that would a great pickup

they wouldn't have to worry about Dirk anally raping their team everytime they faced him

Varajeo is annoying as fuck but he is a great defensive player

He's softer than Pau though... I guess the fact that he has no offense would entice Kobe to approve...

If healthy, would be nice bench player.

The bench does need defense, hell the entire team could use some more defensive players as well as shooters.

Bynum for Varejao :lol

Bynum's trade value is insanely over-rated.

"If he can stay healthy" he's proven that he can't.. He's also proven he is a pain in the locker room, immature and at times a head-case..

"Hustle" is not often seen at the Lakers.

And once Kobe touches the ball neither is "Flow".

Varejao is near-worthless on a bad team like the Cavaliers, but would be a terrific addition to an actual contender. He really is an outstanding defender, particularly against the finesse PF's like Dirk and KG. Not that he shuts those guys down, but he makes them work.

That having been said, Cleveland shouldn't jump at the first chance to deal him. They can afford to wait until something good comes along.

I don't see anyone on the Lake Show the Cavaliers should want who the Lake Show would actually want to give up. Bynum is always hurt and would be looking for the exit as soon as he got here, tbh.

A 20 shot per game average last year and 19.4 average over his 15 year career withstanding.

Exaggerate much? :lol

Would be a nice addition to any contender like Joe said, but I don't see what they could give up.

Williams was traded to Clippers for Baron Davis and the eventual #1 overall pick this year.

There are big men worse than Varejao making more or comparable money, tbh. It's really not a bad contract, imho.

I still think Ferry did pretty well in a tough situation, without many assets.

Yeah, turning down an Amare trade at the 2010 deadline because he didn't wanna trade JJ Hickson was clearly because he lacked assets :lmao

DoK, if you have anything real that explains why that deal fell through would you mind showing it? Because I've heard it both ways- that Kerr backed off, not Ferry.

IIRC at the time you were laughing at the idea that the Suns would trade STAT for Hickson. Now you're saying there was an actual deal on the table and that Ferry turned it down.

DUNCANownsKOBE
06-22-2011, 09:47 PM
At the time I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that Kerr offered a deal and Ferry saved him from his own stupidity. Me saying "There's no way the Suns do this :madrun" out of anger they'd make a retarded trade with no info to back it up is different.

Do you agree that if indeed Ferry was offered that and turned it down because of JJ Hickson he's fuckin retarded?

Also, Ferry made some awesome free agency acquisitions, like Donyell Marshall and Larry hughes.

Yeah, if that's what actually happened.

You ever been to Cleveland, DoK? Ever been to Cleveland in January? This isn't exactly a mecca for free agents. Anyway Larry Hughes was Ferry's third choice in the summer of 2005, after he was turned down by Ray Allen and Michael Redd (who would have been a worse acquisition than Hughes.) LeBron's rookie contract was up after the next season and the Cavaliers hadn't even made the playoffs yet; Ferry had to go out and get somebody.

Cleveland was screwed when they used a lottery pick on Luke Jackson, let Carlos Boozer walk and traded another lottery pick for Jiri Welsch. None of those moves happened on Ferry's watch. The only chance the Cavaliers had to really build a team around LeBron was through the draft and they pretty much shot that option by the time Ferry showed up.

I'm not saying the man is Red Auerbach but to paint him as a scapegoat for the way things went down is stupid, imho. He was fighting an uphill battle from the time he arrived.

Pretty sure Varejao is Brazilian for "vagina". Surely someone here speaks Brazilian.
