Source confirms that the Lakers and 76ers discussed a deal that would swap Lamar Odom for Andre Iguodala. I believe @sam_amick had it first.

I suspect all these Iguodala deals are being formed and then dying when new ownership has to sign off. Ig for LO/Luke could as well.

So 76ers don't want any young pieces. This trade won't happen but Lakerfans can dream.

This would be scary if this were true.

Wait what.. A team would actually take Luke Walton's contract in a trade. Fucking do it Mitch.

uh oh...

but why would the sixers want odom? either odom or brand will be sitting on the bench.

iggy would be starting SF? Artest to the bench? Iggy is fast enough to be PG right?

baseline bum

That would be an absolute steal for LA. They need perimeter defense in the worst way with Artest finished.

I'm a little neutral about this. Iggy would answer the problem of parameter defense and then some, but LAL sacrifices their entire bench in return. It's very tempting to get rid of Walton, though.

Given current state of LA roster, I think that getting Iguodala for LO & Luke W's awful contract would be an incredible steal for the Lakers

The trade talks between the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers, first reported by SI.com, have traction for one simple reason: The exchange of Lamar Odom(notes) and Andre Iguodala(notes) could provide immense benefits to both teams.

The proposed deal – Iguodala for Odom and Luke Walton(notes) – would give the Lakers an elite wing defender for their championship chase. New head coach Mike Brown wants more athleticism in a younger player to pair with Kobe Bryant(notes) and Ron Artest(notes) to defend the likes of James, Dwyane Wade(notes) and Kevin Durant(notes).

One source involved in the talks said that Sixers coach Doug Collins “thinks Odom can play the [center] like [Mike] Krzyzewski had Odom doing in the world championships.”

Nevertheless, no deal was imminent, and the advanced and complicated sales talks make it harder for Sixers president Rod Thorn to pull off such a major trade, sources said.

never going to happen.

I understand their need for an athletic wing defender but I think there are much more pressing issues (like a bench). They were swept by Dallas and I'm not really seeing where the Mavs were just extremely more athletic than the Lakers. This may help against Memphis, Portland, and OKC but they lose size and are worse off against teams like Dallas (assuming Tyson is signed), SA, among others in the west.
