Kerry: Bush Wanted Debate 'Life Lines'

Associated Press

NEW YORK - Why did it take so long for the Bush and Kerry campaigns to agree on a debate schedule? Sen. John Kerry had the answer for television's Regis Philbin, who has hosted the quiz show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

"The big hang-up was George Bush wanted to get life lines, you know, so he could call somebody," the Democratic candidate for president quipped Tuesday while appearing on "Live With Regis and Kelly."

Oh good. Just like the National Guard story which surfaced again in this campaign we have another lame Demo strategy from the 2000 campaign, that of building up the 'Master Debater' versus Bush.

Here is the basic problem with the Democrats vis a vis Bush: you have attacked the man so much on a personal level. You have degraded his intellect and his humanity. When people actually see Bush speak they don't see the caricature that the Left tries to paint of him. They see a likable guy who is reasonably intelligent. The impression they get is "hey, this guy isn't that bad."

This is why the debates in the 2000 campaign were a net plus for Bush when Gore the robo-debater was supposed to destroy him.

I mean this is nothing new. The Left has been trotting out the 'dimwitted conservative' line of attack for ages.

At this point that seems to be all the Kerry campaign has left.

Go ahead, laugh your way to the loser line...I and President Bush have watched his opposition do that in three previous elections.

We both just love people who misunderestimate his strategerie!
