Taking names and leading in quality starts again. ERA too.
10-4 and if the Angels didn't suck he'd easily be 12-2 at least.

tbh Fabbs has really owned the ST community with this genius thread.

next thing you know, he's gonna tell us that CC Sabathia wouldn't be as good if he wasn't with the Yankees and that Felix Hernandez would have a better record if he was with a better team

0 runs in 7 innings today. Won 1-0. Angel run came on an error. What often happens to Weaver happened to Tex pitcher.

2 earned in 6.2, 4-2 win.
1 earned in 9 innings in 5-1 win.

13-4 record 1.81 era.

Sniff it.

Solid outing by Weaver again, but Verlander was simply better.
Figured it would come down to a mistake or two.
Walking the leadoff was Weavers. Got the next two outs, but then tried to pitch to Ordonez with man on base instead of potentially pitching around.

Props to Verlander for getting the final out with 101 mph heat after Angel threatened.

Kind of hope showboating Tigers get to face Angels again in playoffs.

Pitch around Ordonez to pitch to Miguel Cabrera? Ummm ok.

Just a little background on what happened today. Maggs hit that homerun and stayed in the batter's box to see if the ball would go foul or stay fair. Weaver took exception. The next Ordonez AB, Ordonez hit a routine flyout and when he ran back to the dugout, Weaver chirped at him and called "motherfucker." I didn't see it, but on one of the boards I post on had a few people who said they read Weaver's lips say that, so take that with a grain of salt. So, on to Guillen's homerun, Guillen posed, flipped his bat, and stared at Weaver. It was definitely intentionally showing up Weaver. It's also probably a result of Guillen standing up for Maggs. I don't agree with it because the homerun was payback enough. But what happens needs to be put in context.

Guillen was wrong and bush league even if he was getting Maggs' back, but I think Weaver totally had a misunderstanding of what happened with Ordonez and overreacted, and that's what led to what Guillen did.

Pitch around Ordonez to pitch to Miguel Cabrera? Ummm ok.
What i meant is by leadoff walking D. Kelly (then getting two outs), Weaver set himself up to try too hard to get Maggs out so as not to put Maggs on base and have to face Ordonez with not one but two men on. I think all the foul balls Kelly did left Weaver wanting to just get out of there by the time Maggs came up thus he 1st pitch served him.
Props to Maggs for the rock irregardless.

Leadoff walks are often assbiters, esp in a close game pitchers duel and this was a prime example.

I heard what you say about the account and for the record i think pitchers being allowed to hit batters is purely spineless old man purist fertilizer that needs to have been retired since it was 1st allowed in 1880 whatever.

Yeah, if you're going to bitch about showing up the pitcher, bunting in the late innings of an active no-no is considered equally bad form.

Fabbs

Shouldn't bunt during a no hitter? :lmao

I know Chuck D this isn't your rule, just some *unwritten* MLB bullstink.

Again, what ancient tobacco chewing geezer said that is the way it must be?
And what clones followed like sheep? Okay to hurl a baseball at a batter and in some cases ruin or alter career (see the freakin stats for young Tony Conigliaro, also altho it did not end his career, see Roger Steroids Lemmons beaning Mike Piazza), but you can't bunt during a no no. :rolleyes

That ancient crap needs to be shoved up the arse of the ones who made it up and then condoned it.

Jams...what do you think about Aybar's bunt? Douchemove for a douchemove? lol

Zero problem with it. Game was close enough and Aybar can and does bunt for base hits. He has the speed for it. In certain circumstances, I can see how it would be viewed differently. If it was a 10-0 game and it was someone like Trumbo bunting, then there are arguments for it being inappropriate. But under these circumstances, no problem with it at all.

Verlander called it bush league in his post game comments, but he also admitted that he understood the argument for the other side and that it was a close game. I think when you're the pitcher throwing the no-hitter, you take exception to it a little more than most. And I think it's understandable why he might be upset about it. For me, as a fan? Zero problem with the bunt.

Ya. Intelligent MLB viewers know as good as Weavers stats are they could be much better sans Sciosa/average Angels teams. No doubt Weaver would have sprung a bidding war between the usuals (Skunkies and BoSox) as well as the newbie big spender Phillies and other annual contenders (Braves).

Didn't seem to bother Ervin Santana. Why wouldn't you think your team's ace could handle it either?

To me it wasn't about the 3 days rest as much as it was the heat and Weaver's tendency to get frustrated when things don't go his way. His stuff looked fine. Didn't seem like fatigue or arm trouble were issues. Looked more like a mental thing tonight.

That is a possibility of course but tonight was uncharacteristic of Weaver. As Fabs mentioned he wasn't actually too bad until he had to come back out for the 7th inning. I think that is when the fatigue set in for him

And I live in Flint, MI. He is not my team's Ace. Verlander is. :toast

Even if you don't think it was a bad decision to pitch him on 3 days rest you have to think bringing him back for the 7th inning was.
