I was thinking about this the other day to ask if anyone else does this. I actually think I'm alone here, but it works great for me. I don't use numbers to set my air conditioning or heating. Hell, I never measure the temperature. I use the cube of butter I always have in the kitchen. In the winter, if it gets too firm to spread, I turn the heat up a notch. I do basically the same in the summer. I adjust the heat so my butter is never too soft or too firm. Works great for me.

What unusual or unique things that are practical do you guys have to share?

I've moved on both mentally and physically into the 21st century...it's pretty radical, but I recommend it.

So you go into the kitchen periodically and for no other reason than temperature control you spread out butter?

That's strange because I do something strangely similar. I put my finger in three bowls of porridge, usually one is too cold, one is too hot, and one is just right, and that's the one I eat right thurrr!

It must be you, complementing yourself.

Nah he would have said something about the atmospheric pressure or humidity and low level pressure having something to do with your butter spreading.

Why must some of you take any post that you can, and bash people over it?

Am I to assume you have such pathetic lives that you have to thrash others to feel good?

I hope that's not the case. I started an honest post. Curiosity for the most part. Some of you have no intent of letting a good deed go unpunished though.

Yes, I am serious. I am in my kitchen everyday. I like real butter. If it's too firm to spread, I raise the temperature. If it's too soft, I cool the temperature. At the same time, the temperature is in a comfortable range.

I do something similar with your wife. If her legs are too firm to spread, I tell her to eat some more butter.

I do something pretty radical myself, if I'm hot I turn the AC down one or two degrees, and if I'm cold I turn it up one or two degrees.

Then I get some butter and put it on food, radical I know.

But seriously I know I'm cracking jokes, but I used to do the same thing, except my doctor says I can't eat real butter because of my heart so I eat I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, but I was always freezing my ass off or sweating my ass off. I guess it only works with real butter.

One time I tried it with peanut butter, and all I can say is I'm never doing that again (shudders)...

I don't use numbers to set my air conditioning or heating.

If the butter indicates a necessary change in temperature and you go to adjust the thermostat, then, do you close your eyes?

Just a slight change clockwise or counter-clockwise.

It doesn't have numbers anyway.

I think it does have numbers but you simply refuse to see them.

Then it's no great feat that you don't use them, is it?

Numbers do not exist on his thermostat!!

So basically this whole butter thing was bullshit, since he can't use numbers any way because he doesn't have any.

For those of you with thermostats with numbers, please continue to use them.

The temp in my house goes from 79 at 5:30am-7:30am to 86 from 7:30am-5:30pm, then down to 78 from 5:30pm-11:30pm and lastly down to 74 from 11:30pm-5:30am.

This works for me.

I wonder over what temperature range your butter is not "too soft or too firm". I can't help but think that it's quite large with respect to what we consider normal room temperature(s).
