We just got some cool matchups for UFC 136, but you guys are probably tired of hearing about new fights today, right?

Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice added to UFC 136 in Houston http://sbn.to/poxIwi (this was way before that tweet about the fight announcement)

21-2 Dave 'Pee Wee' Herman and 14-1 Mike Russow have verbally agreed to a heavyweight showdown at UFC 136 in Houston this fall, confirmed UFC president Dana White today.

Both men are unbeaten inside the Octagon. Herman made his UFC debut in June with a Fight of the Night win over John-Olav Einemo at UFC 131. Russow's most recent victories were a TKO over Jon Madsen and a memorable third-round comeback KO of Todd Duffee.

It is suppose to be Frankie Edgar, but the person on Deviant Art either used a terrible photo of him, reversed a photo, or a combo of both.

Sort of just using these as placeholders until the Official posters are released.

Some updates to the UFC 136 card via UFC.com

Verbal agreements are in for a third featherweight scrap on the stacked Houston fight card. "China’s best prospect, Tiequan Zhang, makes his return to the Octagon vs. the always-tough Darren Elkins at UFC 136," said UFC president Dana White.

Elkins most recently scored a hard-fought decision over Japanese judoka Michihiro Omigawa. Zhang's last bout was a first-round submission of Jason Reinhardt at UFC 127.

Tickets for UFC 136 may be purchased today using the pre-sale password HOUSTON at ToyotaCenterTickets.com.

Grispi Out, Phan in for Grice at UFC 136 updated August 12
Fresh from his exciting UFC 133 scrap with Mike Brown, The Ultimate Fighter's Nam Phan is back in October, replacing Josh Grispi against always tough Matt Grice.

"Josh Grispi had to withdraw from UFC 136 in Houston, but the always ready Nam Phan is stepping up and taking his place vs Matt Grice on October 8th," said UFC President Dana White. "Both fighters have verbally agreed to the featherweight matchup."

Massenzio and Cantwell to meet in Houston
Mike Massenzio and Steve Cantwell will look to get back to their winning ways this October at UFC 136

“Verbal agreements are in for a middleweight match between two former light heavyweights, Mike ‘The Master of Disaster’ Massenzio and Steve ‘The Robot’ Cantwell at UFC 136 October 8,” said UFC President Dana White.

Matt Grice is out of his scheduled UFC bout on October 8th with Nam Phan due to injury, but Leonard Garcia has quickly stepped in to fill the spot and verbal agreements are in place, confirmed UFC president Dana White today.

Garcia and Phan previously battled to what many considered the most controversial decision of 2010, with Garcia taking home the W at the TUF 12 Finale last December. Their first rematch was postponed due to Phan's injury. Now, they will finally meet once again to settle the score.

It's the second change to the featherweight bout - Grice was originally slated to face Josh Grispi at UFC 136, but Grispi was forced to withdraw, sending Phan into the Houston lineup.

Nick Catone Out of UFC 136 Fight Against Aaron Simpson

http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/09/08/nick-catone-out-of-ufc-136-fight-against-aaron-simpson/

Well guys I have my new opponent for UFC 136 and I am pumped for the challenge! My new guy is Eric "red" Schafer. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to a very tough challenge. Eric is a big guy who is cutting down to 185 from his normal weight class of 205 where he fought Ryan Bader. He has a very tough ground game and I will have to be at the top of my game to beat him which is why I am so excited for this challenge.

Thanks for the support and keep checking back to my site for more inside info and more!

I'd gladly take up that offer and pitch in for gas, but I have to change plane tickets to see my gf this month and that's not gonna be cheap - otherwise I'd probably quit my job to make the fights this weekend :toast

MAIN CARD
Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (for lightweight title)
- I hate Maynard being such a bully for such a small dude, I hope Frankie continues picking him apart like in the last fight. This ends in decision for Frankie, but much less controversial.
Champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian (for featherweight title)
- Kenny will be too weak from the cut to withstand the early offensive onslaught. The only thing he'll have to his advantage is height/reach, but Aldo is too quick and won't get caught in a submission. Aldo by TKO.
Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann
- Sonnen's gameplan is easy to identify, but nearly impossible to stop. If this one gets stopped, it's because of a vicious knee Stann plants at the start of a round. Sonnen via UD.
Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon
- Joe's a good martial artist, but he always looks great against dudes that like to brawl because he's well-rounded enough to throwdown then execute his own gameplan. I see him getting the submission victory and the Guillard hype train finally getting derailed.

PRELIMINARY CARD
Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens
- Must-win for Pettis, basically.

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)

Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (for lightweight title)

Bigger stronger wrestler that have record edge over the champ. Pissed off and concentrated a lot. very cocky with a big ego ready to smash a smaller opponent.
He was waiting for that fight and as he says he would fight Edgar a 100 times to prove he is better then him on every single occasion.

I think Gray is gonna wrestle more and put a smaller Frankie on his back and bully him on the ground. He has a great power and can knock Frankie out. I think he is a favorite to win this fight but I also think Frankie can outsmart Maynard and he will be able to defend takedowns almost as good as previous time and get back from his back.
He has a better standup and he can go for full 5 rounds at the same intensity and pace.

On the other hand there is this bully who is also committed to training and nothing else.

Frankie vs Gray II is one of my favorite fights so I'm extremely excited they are gonna fight one more time.

I'm ready to watch the best card of the year!

Champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian (for featherweight title)

As much as I like Kenny I don't think he has the strength to go along with Aldos. Also dynamics speed and power and versatility that champ do have gonna cause massive problems for Florian.
I see this ending in 3rd or 4th round and kenny really beat up

Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann

Tough

Is all you can say about this fight. Both men are absolutely tough personas and tough fighters. To me it's also a tough matchup to predict.

Stann has a goal to be a champ and he is all pro. That mean he has got everything set. Training , diet, gameplan, discipline and best 'school' /jacksons gym/ .

He can end that night soon. KO power on both hands, legs and knees that chael needs to look out.

I wonder how long before Sonnen shoot for a takedown he is gonna stand with Brian who will probably be able to stuff some of them. He is strong as a horse and he is gonna use it.
I really believe Brian is a top4 guy in the division at the moment.

TBH I'd rather Sonnen win that fight that's why I'm picking him. I do not mind Stann to win this and get a title shot. I want to see Jacksons gameplan for Silva.
First though I want Sonnen vs Silva II

Classic

Sonnen must be able to hold Stann down. If he is not gonna be successful he is gonna lose. Brian stand up is way better, he is quicker and can do a lot of damage.

Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon

The way Melvin fights he is screaming to get a title shot
I want that cocky SOTB to be submitted

Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan

Can go either way
Garcia needs to get his shh together

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago

Okay Demian. It's time to put all the skills together.
I want to see g8 ground battle

Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens

I really believe Pettis gonna destroy Jeremy
It can be 1stR stoppage or early 1st if tko

This card is so awesome that I may consider to watch the facebook fights.

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)

Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (for lightweight title)
Gray is Frankie's hardest fight but he'll get through this with the belt again i believe. He just has too much heart for Gray. Frankie is so hard to put away and is gonna keep coming and coming for all 5 rds. I expect this too go all 5 again and Frankie will win a more clear cut decision like 49-46. Frankie will mix it up with boxing, kicks, wrestling and pace. Go get em Frankie..

Champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian (for featherweight title)

Final desperate attempt for Kenny to wear UFC gold, not gonna happen. One has to wonder if being Dana's buddy gets him so many title shots.. Aldo will win a lopsided decision or put Kenny away with strikes late..

Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann

I expect Sonnen to be rusty but deadly focused. Sonnen feels he is destined to get another shot at Silva and that title. Sonnen will win IMO a UD with his classic takedown and GNP. Stann is not a murderer off his back and Sonnen will grind him out..

Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon

Melvin is getting better with every fight and finally coming into his own..

Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan

"Anderson Silva ... you suck!" Sonnen said. The victorious fighter then stepped away from the microphone for a little dramatic pause as Silva watched from the front row.

"Super Bowl weekend ... the biggest rematch in the history of the sport. I'm calling you out, Silva. I beat you, you leave the division, I lose, I will leave the UFC forever," said Sonnen.

Dana "Edgar is #2 P4P, he is 145 lbs fighting 155"

Sonnen post fight interview: http://video.aol.com/aolvideo/aol-sports/chael-sonnen-ufc-136-post-fight-interview/1208598225001

Maynard was in a pretty good mood; basically Edgar can take a hit, I hit him hard, he has a hard head

Maynard: if there was a bat there, I would have hit him with a bat, too. But I didn't find one. (Turns to Dana) Where you keep the bats? :)

- Exactly what I was thinking while watching the 1st round, I was hoping he would attempt an arm triangle considering he is usually has top position; just another weapon to use instead of having to rely on GnP all the time...Glad to see his coaches saw this as well and added it to his arsenal.

Phenomenal what Frankie did

When I saw Maynard connected in the 1st again I thought it was over but was talking to Frankie to hold once again.

He started to look better and better as the fight progressed. Could not take Maynard down though. Gray wanted to stand as well. I thought he wouldgo for a takedown more. Where was Randy?

Kenny had a good gameplan but really Aldo is fantastic

Sonnen?
Absolutely incredible that he was able to controll Stann the way he did.
And even submitting him. Crazy

Calling out Silva was priceless!

Being the men he is, he puts on himself aditional pressure saying he will UFC if he loses.

Silva was not feeling comfortable. And him being called out he just .... he is pathetic.

Cannot find the presser nowhere yet

Henderson could beat Edgar possibly. Dana was talking about wanting Edgar to fight Aldo at 45 next which is obvious promotional horse-shit on Dana's part. Henderson/Guida gets the next crack, 55 is stacked..

Dana knows 55 is stacked and they need more talent at 45

yea I also do think benson/clay are next in line when we really do not know the melendez situation

Statement from KenFlo

“First, I’d like to thank Jose Aldo for giving me the opportunity to compete for the featherweight title last Saturday. I gave the fight my all, but Jose won that night. I would also like to thank the UFC, Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta for their continued support.

I am passionate about mixed martial arts, and I love being involved in this sport. It is incredible to see how much MMA has grown and that, today, there are millions of people who enjoy the UFC as much as I do.

Second, everyone is asking what is next for me. The only response I can give right now is that I’m going to take some time. I want to rest, spend some time with my family and friends, and then evaluate all of my options. I’ll speak with Dana, and my manager, Glenn Robinson, and we will figure out my next move. When I make that decision, my fans will be the first to know. One way or another, you haven’t seen the last of Ken-Flo!”

Why nobody asks Silva what he thinks about all the stuff?
Is he not there to talk that he want to fight his clone?

I'm so personal about the fights that I will be sick all the time since the fight announcement until the end of the fight.

I want Sonnen to win. want Sonnen to devastate Silva! I want him to demolish Silva.
After that I will call him our Saviour !

New coach validated by Sonnen's submission win, NSAC mum on licensing prospects

It was a proud moment for Scott McQuary when Chael Sonnen cinched an arm-triangle choke that forced Brian Stann to tap out.

McQuary, who joined forces with Sonnen three months prior as a jiu-jitsu and muay Thai coach, said the submission was one of a handful drilled into the fighter over the course of training camp.

"I saw it as an opportunity – because in all of Chael's fights previously, he was always in those positions," McQuary on Monday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "He had people's backs. He had the mount. He had side control, and it was just a matter of a little tweaking to see where the opening was, and then working on the finish."

Chael Sonnen, the submission artist? That's a big departure for the onetime middleweight challenger's run inside the octagon. Until Saturday's UFC 136 event, Sonnen had finished exactly none of his nine fights unless, of course, it was he who was tapping out.

One of McQuary's first tasks, then, was to help bat a monkey off Sonnen's back: submission defense. A triangle/armbar combination halted what was up until that point the most notable performance of the fighter's life when he met champ Anderson Silva at UFC 117 and submitted in the fifth and final round. Sonnen had dominated the fight all the way to the unexpected ending.

So when it was Stann submitting in the second round, McQuary, who is also a head coach at Team Quest Tualatin in Tualatin, Ore., knew he'd done his job.

"It felt fantastic," he said. "It solidified everything we've been working on. That submission was specifically part of what we worked on. I've been focusing on three basic submissions in particular, so that was one of them – part of a transition going from the mount to side control to the back."

Sonnen reached all three positions during the fight, which may have opened the door for a rematch with Silva in February. But it was from top position that he set up the finish, and Stann may have helped him out.

"I think the arm triangle is also one of the most difficult submissions to get out of, especially for a guy like Stann, who has such big shoulders," McQuary said. "He has such a big chin. We knew that getting Chael's shoulder underneath that chin and locking that arm across ... when you've got big [deltoids] like that, that presses it into your own carotid and actually brings it on even stronger."

Need to rewatch the fight but did Sonnen ever attempt a submission against Silva, pictures like the one below are reasons why I'm glad he has added arm triangles

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/1011/mma_u_sonnen_silva_576.jpg

rewatched the fight, Sonnen locks in the arm triangle at the 4:20 mark of the 5th round and but then immediately slides his legs back into the guard of Silva to get top control again, so hopefully for his next fight, he has more confidence in the submission.

looks like Florian is not retiring, and will return to LW division; will take 6 months off to add some muscle.
