Could not get through it. One thing I almost always hate is narration during a movie. Whats the point of watching a movie if the story is explained to you like it was an audiobook? The zoom camera shots were annoying as shit too.
Pretty disappointed.

It was ok. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I like his comedic timing and he's entertaining enough to me to carry a movie, but it wasn't great. My expectations weren't that great to begin with however.

son I agree. I gave it a shot simply because of De Niro, but the warning flags went up from the get go with Bradley Cooper starring in it.

I couldn't even get into the subject matter. The zoom shots and audiobook narration were so distracting. The narration really kills me. If you need a damn narrator to tell your story in a movie then you probably really suck as a director.

If used correctly (and sparingly) it can also add to the film. Shawshank.

I read Shawshank way before it came out on film so maybe thats why it didn't bother me there. However, I also don't think Shawshank is that great of a flim as most people do.

I think that's why Ridley Scott went back and did a director's cut of Blade Runner. The Harrison Ford narration was removed.

When you guys say you cant get through it are you saying that you literally turned it off or walked out the room/theater? It's a dumb question but I just can remember the last time i walked out of a movie theater no matter how bad. Now I can understand if you did not intend to see the movie in the first place.
Like the wife just happens to be watching something and I sit through it for five minutes but then lose interest. Thats understandable. But for example I just watched Kick-Ass in Blueray. My expectations were not high but I intended to watch it. The move Sucks-Ass! But I still sat through it.

I didn't see this movie (and I probably won't), but there are a ton of awesome, classic movies with narration:
A Clockwork Orange
Apocalypse Now
Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Raising Arizona
Fight Club
Fear And Loathing
The Usual Suspects . . . Shawshank, of course.
I really like narrated movies when they are done well.

No, some people just appreciate the literary version of a work better than the film version because of the greater detail. People think that Shawshank was a good movie because the story was so good. And it is. That doesn't change the fact that film does not capture it nearly as well as Stephen King's novella.
Try again, dumbass.

As far as adaptations go, Stephen King gets his movies closer than most other writers...but when did anyone say that a movie is supposed to match the detail of a novel?
As a movie it stands on it's own-but a dumb fuck like you would rather see stupid fantasy crap that could never happen.
A moron like you could never understand the achingly beautiful writing and interpretation accomplished by the tandem of Stephen King & Frank Darabont.

I love Edward Zwick's work, many of his films narrated by different characters through their letters to eachother or by their journals. Glory, Legends of The Fall, The Last Samurai. All great films in my opinion. I love those movies very much.

LOL age smack...
I am in my mid-forties and in twice as good a shape as you'll ever be- hell however old you are -you are still a worthless little know-it-all.
Seriously, I know you get a little bold because this is a semi-anonymous board...but I can bet you my life that you would not be stupid enough to walk in on a group of people having a conversation and begin by telling others how stupid they are and how superior you pretend to be...LOL...you definitely would understand just how fuckin' offensive, rude & so full of shit you are.
You happen to do this to almost everyone here and in the political forum..as soon as someone is having a decent debate or discussion...here you come with your fuckin' know-it-all bullshit...and the first shot, the first words out of your mouth is.....
you guessed it....you are so stupid blah-blah....

You've been threatening me since you got here. Its cute. Its kinda like the way you threatened CF above.
I do this to hardly anyone on here, especially in the political forum. Contrary to popular belief, you are not everyone. I didn't take a jab at you at all in the death penalty forum. You made me laugh when you said statistics weren't facts. However, due to your self esteem issues you take everything like that as an afront. You're pretty damn fragile and it shows with how your posting style is on here.
Your characterization of me is very much off, but that has more to do with how you view yourself than anything else. I've had the gal to fuck with you over your time here and you've seen me fuck with a few other people and all of a sudden its EVERYBODY. You're not that important.
I've got no doubt that some people on here view me as an asshole. I'm pretty sure many people on here think of you as an asshole (see this thread for proof if you don't believe me). I do find it funny that you somehow above being an asshole on here. I guess that's the senility though.
