He was still a force. He had won the MVP 4 years earlier, and the Finals MVP just 2 years ago. The Lakers reached the Finals that year too with him as their best player.

Also people love to rag on Yao but he was an extremely skilled nigga for a man his size. I always enjoyed watching him play tbh. I dont think we'll ever see another player like him. Most abnormally large niggas arent very coordinated or mobile, Yao was. Add to it the shooting touch he had which was better than most bigmen in the league and that made him even more unique.

Im gonna miss that nigga. :(

And it's closer to 21ppg @ 58% for the 03-04 season and numbers continued to dip thereafter.

yao sold me when he walked back from that injury against the lakers and sealed game 1 in 2009. too bad that was one of his last games.

Kobe decided to get rid of him, and the way to do that was to throw the series. If LA wins, Buss probably gives Shaq an extension. The ultimate example of be careful what you wish for. Kobe didn't sniff the Finals again until the NBA provided him with the All Star big man he can't win without in 2008. For the three years in between, he just proved how much he can't carry a team in the playoffs, or even into the playoffs on one occasion.
