No. 1: Austin, Texas

This is no surprise. Austin consistently sits atop Forbes' annual list of the best cities for jobs and scores highly in other demographics rankings. It is the third-fastest-growing city in the nation, attracting large numbers of college grads, immigrants and families with young children.

No. 2: Raleigh, N.C.

Raleigh has experienced the second-highest overall population increase and the third-highest job growth over the past two decades in the U.S. It also ranked among those regions seeing the biggest jump in new immigrants and is the No. 1 city for families with young children. The area is a magnet for technology companies fleeing the more expensive, congested and highly regulated northeast corridor. Affordable housing and short commute times are no doubt highly attractive to recent college graduates and millennials looking to start families.

No. 3: Nashville, Tenn.

The country music capital, with its low housing prices and pro-business environment, has experienced rapid growth in educated migrants, where it ranks an impressive fourth in terms of percentage growth. New ethnic groups, such as Latinos and Asians, have doubled in size over the past decade. A high quality of life, a vibrant cultural and music scene and a diverse population also make Nashville a desirable place to live.

No. 4: San Antonio, Texas

Like its other Texas neighbors, San Antonio boasts soaring population rates as well as a good job market and booming industry. One key factor in San Antonio's favor: stable house prices -- even by Texas standards. PMI Mortgage Insurance's most recent risk index, which is a two-year measure, lists San Antonio as having the lowest risk from falling prices among large Texas cities.

No. 5: Houston, Texas

Low housing prices, a stable job market and a vibrant immigrant community has helped Houston emerge as future boomtown. And with its burgeoning port and dominance of the world energy business, the area seems destined to become even more influential in the coming decade.

Austin and SA both benefit, depend on?, from HUGE revenues and salaries for GOVT work (military, fed/state govt, state SIGs and lobbyists, civil service).

I was going to say UT has more professional teams than some large cities, plus the athletes only get paid under the table, not millions of dollars per year.

Come on now, you know the Spurs would fuck up the longhorns in basketball. And if the all the men in San Antonio fought against all the men in Austin, we would you beat all you little skinny jean wearing queers to a pulp.

fukc u halberta. austin is shit. skinny ass crackers. fucking plain vanilla crackas with no spice to life. idiots.

Austin is all right. Not the best city(Their downtown is dirty as fuck) but the women from other states going to UT/A&M make it worthwhile to go visit 6th street. San Antonio shits on Austin on just about everything it's not even funny. Six Flags/Sea World>>>>>>(does Austin even have a splashtown?) San Antonio Mexican food>>>>Austin's Mexican food. Riverwalk>>>>>>>>6th street. San Antonio's history(Alamo, the Missions)>>>>>>>>> Austin's history. Names of the cities: San Antonio sounds way more manlier than pussy ass Austin. Spurs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>any of Austin's little kids college sports.:lmao And, oh yeah, Four rings faggots!:lobt::lobt::lobt::lobt: I would give Austin an edge based on their ho's, but most of the women there ain't even from Austin. San Antonio women>Austin women.

:lol at people who think Austin is still some hipster/anti-mainstream mecca. The Austin of old is dead and gone, and has been for years. Austin has become the new douchebag capital of Texas. It's still fun to visit Austin and all, but any given night out you'll see more drunken meathead assholes in Affliction t-shirts than any other city in Texas, even Dallas. It's incredible how douchey Austin is now.

I agree, Austin is overrated as hell! I have worked and lived all over Texas and if I were to rank the cities based on the fun factor, I would rank the cities like this:

1. San Antonio
2. South Padre Island
3. Austin
4. corpus Christi
5. Dallas
6. Houston
7. Laredo/El paso(back in the day) I would put them closer to # 3, but they're all shitty and dead now.

Nothing beats San Antonio( oldest city and the favorite son of Texas)
San Antonio has everything a major city has, but without all the congestion of a major city. Badass weather for outdoor recreational activities, and best bang for your buck if your a tourist.:toast

shiiet you could spend two days on that stretch of I-10 between SA and Boerne alone. And of course the Riverwalk is amazing to get drunk in at night time. It's like a whole other city down there below the streets

I'm surprised Houston isn't further up there, given the natural gas boom.

Houston is the 4th largest city in the US and San Antonio is the 7th. Austin cracks the Top 20 (Top 15?). Not exactly what comes to mind when thinking of boom towns.

Corpus, El Paso and maybe FW come to mind (at least that's what I was expecting). All big cities, but not the biggest like Houston and SA.

I also wouldn't say Houston is going to be a boomtown. Houston already happened. It's still growing, but it's not like major business and industry isn't already there.

oh crap

lmfao @ all the penis envy in this thread. usually it's the smaller town hating on the bigger ones but i guess when you're from a shithole like san antonio it's the other way around. fucking sad.

Sorry to say Austin > San Antonio

I wish it weren't true, but it is. Yes i love my Spurs and waterparks and sea world and Fiesta and history, etc. But Austin is smarter, more innovative and far ahead of SA in many ways. Their downtown looks incredible compared to ours. I pray for better city leadership to actually really start making changes here but i dont see it happening anytime soon. They have UT, we have Career Point. nuff said. (I'm speaking of the mentality)

Dallas would never be on this list because Dallas has to many cities around them (Plano, Duncanville, Arlington, Desoto, Fort Worth etc...). That being said Dallas is a pretty shitty city anyway so.....I dont know.
