Study: Spurs easier NBA team to root for than Mavericks 07/14/2011 10:16 PM

SportsDayDFW.com

Everything is a whole lot easier after you win an NBA title ... including being a prime target for bandwagon fans. As the Business Journals noted in a recent study, the Mavericks were the fourth easiest team to root for in the NBA, with only the Detroit Piston, San Antoinio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers beating them out for the top-3 spots. Based on a formula that ranked the teams based on their record over the past 10 seasons and three key sports landmarks, the study gave the Mavericks a huge boost after their championship.

The Sacramento Kings were ranked as the most difficult franchise to root for, with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers rounding out the bottom 3 teams.

The Business Journals' Top 10 easiest NBA teams to root for:

1. Los Angeles Lakers

2. San Antonio Spurs

3. Detroit Pistons

4. Dallas Mavericks

5. Boston Celtics

6. Miami Heat

7. Orlando Magic

8. Cleveland Cavaliers

9. New Jersey Nets

10. Chicago Bulls

Kings most difficult? I'd completely disagree with this study. Kings are actually an exciting team to watch and I've been surprised that their record hasn't been better.

I would have thought that after the way the Laers handled defeat with their pure thuggery, they would have been much lower...I guess they are simply a reflection of society.

3. Bulls

4. Spurs

5. Heat(now)

Been to a few different arenas around the league, and the Spurs have always had great support, and alot of fans at road games.

Clippers are a damn hard teem to root for. They generally suck and when they show some promises their owner do some trades or let some players go to make some money. The latest of these money saving trade cost them Kyrie Irving. Add to the mix the Lakers, that are a very successful franchise playing in same arena, and it takes a lot of dedication to be a true Clippers fan.

Yeah it's pretty hard to root for a team like the Clippers. I mean, the owner has made it clear that he doesn't give a shit about winning.

Not only the money saving trade cost them Kyrie Irving, but in the 2010 draft, they had the chance to draft Paul George and they got that bust from Wake Forest.

With the advent of the internet it's so much easier for even casual fans to catch up on some of the bigger behind the scenes stories with franchises. With the financial issues that the Maloofs are facing so well known it's hard for anyone but a die hard to really root for the Kings, knowing that the slashing and burning of their roster hasn't been part of any basketball related rebuilding effort but the result of overleveraged casino owners cutting costs wherever they can.

so this is just a fancy way of saying that the spurs have the third highest win percentage over a period of time...

How in the world did Detroit get into the top tier of this study? They have gone steadily down hill since their championship years with bad seasons and bad management decisions.

The Mavs would be easier to root for if you take out Cuban and Terry.

you never know. there always seems to be people in Spurs gear at away-games from what I can tell. maybe they're originally from texas (wouldn't be surprising given Texas' size), either way, they're supporting

in a fairly recent article, the spurs ranked a respectable 8th in the league, in online sales and sales at the NBA merchandise store in New York City.
