View Full Version : Is Poltergeist still the best haunting movie ever?

I watched Insidious this afternoon and I couldn't help but notice some of the similarities. I can remember being scared to death as a kid watching Poltergeist and I can't seriously think of another house haunting movie that's even close.

Yes, it is. There are no horror films anymore. They suck. And anyone trying to remake Poltergeist should be thrown off a cliff with the same people who remade Fright Night.

I watched Insidious last night, and expected it to be a good horror movie. It wasn't. It wasn't a good movie at all. They are rare.

There are no good haunting movies any longer. They are too fucking stupid now. There was one called "Entity" that I thought was decent a long time ago, and we all know that Amityville Horror was great, but not much else.

Just watched Insidious tonight as well. Wasn't too impressed.

The Exorcist isn't a haunted house movie. Insidious technically isn't one either since the kid is haunted, but it basically is since they just use the kid as the thing haunted to get over the common objection of "Why don't you just leave the house."

There's never any moments in The Exorcist when people see ghosts or go up in attics or basements and hear sounds etc. Apples and oranges tbh

It might've been because I saw it at the theater... and the volume was soooooo fucking LOUD.. that I actually thought Insidious was decent, the ending sucked though..

The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers bothered me a long time.

The Ring was solid. Insidious wasn't bad but not really scarey. The Excorcist is still #1.

for recent good haunting movies you really gotta go international.

The Orphanage, The Devil's Backbone, Baby's Room.

American classics:
The Shinning
The Ring
Poltergeist
Sixth Sense
Session 9

I have to mention a couple of early 80s flicks that were scary as shit:

The Changeling and Ghost Story.

Poltergeist is right up there though. The effects were great.
