Really, the Jordan one is the only one that makes great sense with that design, because the move he's making is going forward with a lot of motion, whereas Magic is just shooting a hook (certainly a famous one) and Bird is the worst, just shooting a jump shot.

I like that they were going for a theme they'd all have, but it just doesn't work as well on Magic and Bird.

Incorrect. They have a deal with the NBAPA in place already, so they could have put a current player on the cover. They probably choose to go with Bird, Johnson and Jordan because the current players are going through a lockout. It's better to sell on nostalgia when there will be no free-agency movement, no trades happening and the rookies won't be immediately available.

Oh, going with the Magic cover. Growing up he was my favorite player, still is, and having him on the cover of my favorite series just seems right.
