View Full Version : The difference between Martial Arts and Fighting.

xellos88330

It is in my opinion that fighting and the practice of martial arts are two completely different things. The only thing that people can really bring back home with them from studying martial arts is the principles of human anatomy; i.e: This elbow joint isn't meant to bend this way. If it is bent like this, it will hurt.

As for the actual practice of these learned techniques, it is often more difficult than one initially understands it to be while engaged in a fight. I do not understand why a majority of martial artists believe they will win a fight just because they have a black belt or something similar.

Here is an example of what I mean: (this is from a movie I recently watched.)

Let me get this right the OP is saying a dancer can beat a trained martial artist who takes kicks, punches, elbows, knees to various parts of the body on a daily basis and trains himself to push his body past a breaking a point of a normal human being incase said person is caught in a submission that would make a normal person tap? Makes sense.

I am in no way saying that a martial artist couldn't whoop my ass. What this thread is mostly about is the fact that many people use the fact that they know martial arts as a way to intimidate or impress.

I have taken numerous martial arts classes from Krav Maga, to Kuk Sool Won. They all seem to just repeat themselves. It is all basically stuff that you can learn in Anatomy classes. Well, training your body to be strong, flexible and fast was something else you can take from it aside from that.

A fight isn't a huge "if, then" scenario, but more of a "how" kind of thing. Thinking if he does this, then I will do this is always a terrible thing to do in a fight. You waste so much time planning everything and when it doesn't go according to how you envisioned it, you could very well be fucked.

How can he be a pussy when he didnt throw up?

The point was/is this, MMA workouts kick your ass. Unless youre a) a pro athlete in some capacity or b) have only grown accustomed to the workout through blood and sweat over time, the workout is going to fuck you up.

A marathon runner is just that. A distance runner. Not a power-lifter, a sprinter or even used to explosive, high intensity workouts. The writer is in great shape by any measure, he's just not in the same kind of shape required to compete.

Also, I dont know if the trainer/fighter was trying to make the buy feel better or anything, but even he was saying "This is where everyone else either pukes or quits" (to paraphrase).

Meaning, I am quite sure you (or me, for that matter) would either puke or quit going through this routine at some point. Unless of course you think you are in better shape than a guy who can run 26 miles straight consistently.

had i stuck with the gym i was at... i most def could hack that 18 min workout and more in that video. that shit was like 2% of the workout that i had to endure 6 days a week, 3 hrs a day. i wish i could've stuck with that gym but when i went back to school the gym took a backseat, plus driving damn near an hr (round trip) to and from the gym 6 days a week was killing my wallet.

That dude is a straight pussy. The part with the resistance band where he had to push forward and the jumping over the yellow rope was hard to watch, dude was such a pathetic bitch. He must have been in pretty piss poor shape at the time for a marathon runner to struggle that hard with that resistance harness after only a jump rope warm-up, a few suicide sprints, and some push-ups...really was tough to watch.

Well yea. MMA is handled in a confined space. Kinda hard to keep your distance in there. The shape of the ring also makes it harder to keep yourself in a position to not be cornered. MMA favors grapplers. In the real world it is easier to not get backed into a corner because well, there isn't a corner there. If someone lunges at you, you are free to move back if you are fast enough to get away from it. I am not saying that ALL fights take place in wide open spaces, just a good deal of the places are much bigger than an MMA ring.

The difference is a martial artist will not remember the techniques they practice when a 6'3 210lb guy is coming straight for their face.

It's the survival instinct and how tough you trained your chin to withstand a punch to the jaw is the only thing that matters. < this is what a fighter does.

I've taken Muay Thai for 5 days a week for 3 years now and too say that some bum who has no experience is going to be able to properly defend himself is just stupid. If i were to kick you in the shin you would probably drop like a girl, I'm not trying to act tough its just my shins are solid and yours are jelly. I'm not even going to go into the rest like clinching or striking.

My instructor in his prime hes close to 60 now but his shin is made of concrete and is still in great condition.

you're such a fool, does it hurt knowing you're a complete and utter pos who has the iq of a fuckin' 10 yr old? i think i'm being too nice when i say that.

tbh, you're cracking me up with this post and the way you try to crack one lame joke after another... don't quit your day job! oh wait, you don't have one, right? i mean, no self respecting ceo wants to hire some old dude whose resume includes dumpster diving, trolling ST, fixing outdated packard bell's in order to use bryce3d and make shit "art", cracks jokes that only humors his fat ass, or the less cool ron jeremy.

i don't degrade women's "sports", just that crock of shit wnba.

and yes, tattooing a black dude is going to be crazy, it's totally different than tattooing a white dude, a mexican, etc... you just don't understand and i don't expect you to. you're basing your assumptions off your own ignorance. stay dumb, dumbfuck!

i went to muay thai last night at the pit and we basically worked the clinch for the entire hour. my neck is feelin it today, not to mention the rash and scratches from the wraps.

GPIA. Take it from me; you wouldn't believe all the kind of diseases you can pick up from full mounting around with those fellas! Thats why I always pack protection when I'm planning to be grappling mma style with some young hardbodies!

Can't wait to have a son and force him to train BJJ/Judo/Wrestling at the age of 1 1/2.
They have some great programs for 3+. It's great for girls too

Martial Arts is for the majority of people on the internet…Guys that did not go out for the team & at age 40 they are trying to prove that they are tough & have what it takes…These folks are pit bull owners…Fighting AKA Boxers are guys who did not settle for just playing the radio when they were in High School…They went out for the team & excelled in sports...Today at age 40 they own Golden Retrievers, ride bicycles and are good fathers to their children…They make good coaches…They already had their day and they are great at encouraging boys & girls to be the best that can be…:tu
