After hours of suffering, the CABB was able to insure the players. All the NBA players that play for Argentina will play the Olympic qualifier. "I'm very happy", said the CABB president Vaccaro. Training starts this Friday.

The wait was worth it. After too many meetings, pressure and uncertainty, the CABB president, German Vaccaro, confirmed through Twitter that the Confederation has reached a deal to insure all Argentina's players that play in the NBA (Delgino, Ginobili, Scola and Nocioni) so they would be able to play the Olympic qualifier in Mar del Plata.

"The NBA players are insured! Thanks to everyone that helped in this difficult moment! The family of our sport helped to make this happen", wrote Vaccaro. And later on he added on the official site of the Confederation: "I'm very happy for reaching this goal, although genuinely tired after so many meetings, uncertain moments and some bitter moments". The reality, that he confirmed to other media, is that if the tournament wouldn't have been played in Mar del Plata, the players wouldn't have been able to play.

The company in charge to provide the insurance policies will be Sancor Seguros, that from now on strengthen his position as a sponsor of the team, and will even organize an event next Monday in which the new Argentina NT jersey will be introduced along with an anthem to the golden generation(??). "Now is the time to train, play and organize the best Olympic qualifier in history, and enjoy our blessed golden generation looking for a berth in London 2012", said Vaccaro. Even though it wasn't publicly admitted, it was known that the CABB treasury will pay almost 40% of the $540,000 US dollars required to insure the players.

With this deal reached, it's now confirmed the presence of the 15 players called up for the first training session this Friday at 7PM, to take place in the UADE University gym. A little earlier, the full roster and the coach will have a press conference in the Panamericano Hotel.

Friendly game 8/7/11: Argentina 82 - Paraguay 56.

Team Argentina didn't have Scola (healing from knee surgery, should be ready for the qualifiers), Oberto (small muscle strain), and Pepe Sanchez (muscle fatigue).
Manu Ginobili was making a comeback to the national team since his last game in 2008.
Nocioni was the player of the game with 21 points.

Pepe Sanchez made his return to the National Team after almost retiring from professional basketball in 2006, against a very limited opposing team. Scola and Oberto still didn't play. Nocioni was again the player of the game with 24 points.

Next week the team is playing the Super 4 tournament in Cordoba against Cuba, Venezuela and Uruguay. All of these games are exhibition games as part of the training towards the Olympic qualifier tournament.

That's some crappy opponents. With Argentina NT being virtually the same since a decade, I guess they didn't really need high level preparation games. Winning the Olympic qualifying tournament at home should be a cakewalk for them.

Yep, I looked at the full preparation schedule before saying it was an easy one. Argentina NT doesn't need to work on his game and having such a light preparation make it easier for its best player to join the NT. It's a smart move.

And there are no reasons to be worried about that since they are way better than the other teams. Brazil at full strength could have been a worthy opponent but they are without Nene, Varejao and Barbosa.

The other candidate is Puerto Rico, according to what you hear around here...

The biggest issue with these tournaments though is the single elimination games. One team gets hot for one game, or your team goes cold, and it can leave you out.

Damn you are lucky, that will be fun as hell. You should try to take some pics and upload them in a thread, especially if you get good seats.
