My son will be born, Danielle was supposed to be induced at 6:45 am but Devin had other plans. We went to the hospital at 3am she's currently at 5cm. I'm up on zero sleep now at 5am I guess I better get used to no sleep.

Congrats dude, i remember when my first was born and staying up for a couple of days even knowing that my wife was going to be induced.
Take advantage of the nurses the first few hours after your boy is born and get some rest. I know it's exciting but if you aren't rested you won't be able to enjoy him as much. Wow, that last sentence is the exact same thing I told TC but on a completely different topic.

Labor is nothing like in the movies, trust me there is time to post on spurstalk. You just have to make sure that you do this while she is napping during labor, because if you just try to do it in between contractions, you will be sorry.

Heath, does she have any oxytocin on board to help speed things up?

Heath Ledger
08-02-2011, 06:41 AM
Devin James McMahon was born 8-1-11 8:02pm 7lbs 4oz 21" long

They did give her some oxytocin when she was at 9cm once she started pushing it took about an hour and a half until delivery.

I'm
Drained I've had about 4 hrs sleep in the last 48 hours.

One bit of practical advice....
To quote Douglas Adams, "Always know where your towel is". A small towel is an indespensible tool for a new father. Your newborn has an inborn talent for launching various toxic substances in your direction from every orifice in his tiny body. Having a towel nearby to drape over your shoulder when holding him, or to intercept a potential drenching when changing a diaper, will do wonders for your fragile, sleep-deprived psyche, not to mention preserving your wardrobe from anointing with various foul and obscene substances.
Enjoy the roller coaster ride!

I was worried that I was not going to be able to change diapers (poopy diapers). It doesn't take much for me to start gagging. But somehow, with my own child, it never was an issue. Although I still have to rely on her mother to deal with vomit.

Sound advice from Cyrano. When it came to changing diapers my husband had his own ritual: Before he opened the diaper he'd take three wipes out of the container in advance, whether he thought he'd need them or not. That habit saved him a big mess more than once, and if you end up not needing them they go back into the box easily enough.

Diapers are no problem for me. 14 nieces and nephews and my two brothers when they were babies so I'm well practiced. Already going through the sleep deprivation.
