GE Global Research recently announced they are forging ahead with a project that could greatly increase the capacity for storage-on-disc technologies. Their plan is to distribute discs with 500 GB of holographic optical storage.

Well, Bluray holds 25 GB per layer, up to 4 layers. This is a 5x improvement over Bluray. Not the paradigm shift I would expect for such an advancement, but still great in my opinion. Now we can have an entire season of a TV series in 1080P 3D format, on one disk!
