And I feel like United is gonna win this years premier league rather easily. The only way I see it being a very tight race is if City's new team going into the season is significantly improved.

Fuck it, for now I'm excited, although the Gunners have been rather disappointing in the offseason. Maybe my expectations were too high
Wenger needs to get Mata and Jagielka in ASAP. Gervinho looks to be a promising replacement for Samir on the left side. Would still like to see more help for the back and a better GK.
Gonna suck to see Nasri in a Man city uniform. Good luck to Cesc in Spain, assuming Arsenal gets the 40m they're asking

I thought this would be the summer Wenger would change his ways....just like last year and the year before that.
I'm not even a die-hard Arsenal fan, but it's extremely frustrating following this team. I can only imagine how the die-hards feel.

If they're still there then it just means they don't trust the young guys to step up so soon.... and I don't think they trust Chicharito will keep this up if they keep Berbatov.. and honestly as a fan of Chicharito... I hope they do keep him there.
I will be very surprised if he does what he did last season... I will be amazed.. He's achieved so much already it's difficult to say he will do better this season, so if keeping Berbatov is probably the right move, it gives both Chicharito and Berbatov some competition that will probably help the team.

Alex chamberlain, from what I've read, seems like another promising prospect. What he likely won't add is experience(certainly, he's 17)and mental toughness.
Some compare him to Walcott, as he plays with good pace and is proficient in the box.
Joel Campbell also looks set to sign with the Gunners
I still don't see any of these moves being real difference makers, outside of Gervinho. In the big picture they look good, but in the short term it's not going to raise the Gunners above where they were last year

Exactly.
Seems like a promising prospect (9 goals in the EPL in 1 year at 17 is respectable), but none of these summer signings have been that great. It's tough though because Arsenal is in a tricky situation...they've constantly been trying to hold onto Cesc, there's rumors that Nasri might be going to City, without 2 of the best players and imo there best in Nasri, it'll be tough to replicate last year's season. Tough to make big signings when you're unsure about 2 of your biggest wage earners, if those cases were settled early in the offseason then that frees up a lot of money.
symple19
08-08-2011, 08:19 PM
That's a good point. Arsene has made his bed by allowing the Cesc/Samir drama to go on so long. I've still gotta think they're gone soon.
Tbh, it looks like Wenger is going to ride out this season, take his medicine (a 4th or lower place finish), and have tons of $$$ to spend next year plus these kids (chamberlain, campbell).
If AW really wants to help the Gunners improve, he's got to make a move in the defense or in the defensive midfield. Even losing Fabregas/Nasri, I'm still confident they can score goals. Problem is, will they be able to stop anyone else?

Goal.com claims that Wenger may enter his final season with Arsenal:
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/08/13/2617767/arsene-wenger-reveals-to-close-friends-that-he-is-preparing
Well, as great a coach as he is, maybe a change wouldn't be that bad. Arsenal might very well have to face years now in which finishing in the top four is going to be very difficult.
Cesc is finally gone, it seems. It's very sad to see him leave, but I won't hold it against him. He is now probably entering the best years of his career, and being one of the better offensive midfielders in the world, it is very understandable that he wants to be able to play for silverware year in and year out, which frankly is not very likely currently at Arsenal. And of course, Barca is the club where he grew up.
I guess that Nasri will be leaving as well, and fans will not be as sympathetic in this case, especially if he is going to Man City. Both Cesc and Nasri leaving will definitely weaken the club, but, probably even worse, it will be a sign that Arsenal are not able to hold players of that caliber as they simply don't have the money nor the perspective to offer players of that ink.
Still, with Wilshere and Ramsey continuing to develop as nicely as they have done so far, van Persie in the stellar form of the final period of last season (and maybe even staying healthy for once) and new players like Miyaichi and Gervinho likely to have an impact right away, the offense will probably still be strong enough for Arsenal to be competitive.
But they just have to buy a starting caliber CB. Vermaelen is good, but the others are more backup-type players. Even with Jagielka or Cahill alongside Vermaelen, the central defense won't be as good as those of Man Utd. or Chelsea or Man City, but it would be a start.

They've played pretty well, actually
Gervinho looks a lot better than I thought he would. Very comfortable, very active. He was also putting himself in great position for much of the game.
Walcott not playing until the second half hurt, Arshavin missed some really good opportunities that Theo probably wouldn't have
Defense was serviceable.

GK and defense are fine, Arsenal needs a creative midfielder and they lost both of them. Diaby and Wilshere are not the anwser. I don't know why they let Fabregas go, if they won't keep Nasri. Fabregas and Barca had zero leverage in negotiations.

The Arsenal defense is not fine, it's painfully average.
Which is perfectly adequate for the style of football that Arsenal plays - hence just fine. However if they don't get quality help in the midfield (and i don't see what player out there could fill that Fabregas+Nasri hole), they will have to change the style (which will expose their holes elsewhere).

I still don't see how you can describe the defense as 'fine'. Which style of football are you referring to, free-flowing offensive that has trouble finishing chances with defense that often gets exposed on set pieces and in the air?
It's not one or the other - if the Gunners want to ever seriously compete for a title they'll have to address their average-at-best defense irrespective of their new problems at midfield.

:wow
This would be crazy if it happens. I could see it going both ways.
Positives are that Tevez can be a machine up front and would give the Gunners a fearsome combo alongside RVP. (although one of those guys would have to play out of position)
Negatives are that he can be a whiny bitch with questionable dedication, especially after the whole "I wanna be closer to my family" saga
I'll believe it when I see it, but if Wenger is really working this angle, then it's a very ballsy move.......

Fantasy Premier League - An Apology
A statement has been issued regarding the Fantasy Premier League game.
As some of you are aware, many fans trying to access Fantasy Premier League on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will have experienced problems logging in or registering teams prior to the Gameweek 1 deadline.
While the demand reached unprecedented levels on Saturday morning, we fell short of the standards you expect from the world's biggest fantasy football game and make no excuses for what was both a frustrating and disappointing experience ahead of the new season. For this we apologise unreservedly.
TECHNICAL ISSUE
Our technical teams have been working throughout the weekend to ensure the technical issue that led to the problems experienced by users are dealt with. Work also continues to improve the quality of your experience with additional steps taken in the game itself that enable you to:
1. Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.
2. Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to 'Leagues' > 'League name' > 'Administer' > Select 'Gameweek 2' in 'Scoring Starts' drop-down menu and click 'Update league details'.
3. Win a VIP trip to watch Man Utd v Chelsea
The manager of the team that accumulates the most points in Gameweeks 2, 3 & 4 will win a VIP trip for two to watch Man Utd v Chelsea on Sunday 18th September 2011 . The prize includes all transport, two nights' accommodation, match tickets, pre-match hospitality and £250 spending money. If there is a tie between teams, the team with the fewest transfers between Gameweeks 2-4 will win the trip. In the event of a further tie, the winner will be selected at random.
4. Win a new monthly prize - iPad2
Each monthly winner of Fantasy Premier League 2011/12 will be able to choose between receiving an iPad2 or the current monthly prize (replica shirt, iPod nano & digital camera). The runner-up will then receive whichever prize is not claimed by the monthly winner.

It's premature to Kun in your pants about him, because it was one of the weaker teams, but the no-foul, faster-pace favors him. The dude is pretty consistent too: 120 goals in 272 games is nothing to sneeze at, and he's only 23.

One task is to find a new central defender and he is set to revive his interest in Germany international Per Mertesacker.
Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2027224/Jack-Wilshere-piles-agony-Arsenal-Arsene-Wenger-looks-Per-Mertesacker.html#ixzz1VLX2clGc

Mertesacker was the best German CB a couple of years ago. Recently, he has seldomly played up to his potential though and has been hampered by injuries.
He is entering the final year of his contract, and with his club Bremen having financial difficulties, they might very well be willing to sell him (they don't have a lot of players who are interesting to other clubs anyway).
If he can somehow return to old form, Merte would be a good addition for Arsenal - he definitely is better than any current CB they have (except for Vermaelen).

The sad thing about the Arsenal game yesterday was that it was actually a somewhat decent performance considering all the unproven teenagers that were thrown into cold water because of injuries/suspensions/Wenger's stubborn refusal to buy new players. Frimpong, Miquel, Jenkinson all showed some promise, but they should be playing in Carling Cup games this season, not in important PL fixtures.
Liverpool didn't look that great, by the way, considering all the money they spent. Of course, it's still early in the season, so they still might gel. Suarez was a real game changer, though. When he came on, things started going south for Arsenal.

Park close to Gunners switch
Monaco striker Park Chu-Young (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/65421/Park-Chu-Young) is set to undergo a medical at Arsenal.
South Korea captain Park, 26, had been due to sign for Lille and underwent the first part of a medical, but he now appears destined for the Emirates Stadium after Arsene Wenger (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/manager?id=5) made his move.
Lille president Michel Seydoux told BBC Sport: "We haven't had a telephone call - nothing. From what we understand he could be at Arsenal."
He added: "Like Monaco, Lille are baffled. Everything had been agreed."
The Press Association reports that Arsenal have offered around £10 million for Park.
The Gunners are, according to reports in France, also planning a €35 million offer for Lille starlet Eden Hazard and it remains to be seen whether this deal will have an affect on those negotiations.

That was pretty dominant on the road and they really haven't gelled yet. Looks like an exciting season for City.

However, despite having developed a reputation for being overly-cautious during his time in England, Mancini hinted that he would have no problem putting them all out on the pitch at the same time in a very attacking formation.
"I think we can play with Nasri, [David] Silva, Aguero, [Mario] Balotelli, Tevez and [Edin] Dzeko all in the same game!" he said.
Them niggas are staaaaaaaaaaacked. :wow

Funny how you put a couple of good players around a stiff like Dzeko, and suddenly he has room and makes everything that comes his way :lol
Dzeko is not a stiff. :nope
Well, looks like City finally have the creativity in midfield they were lacking before. They look downright scary so far.
So, the rape of Arsenal will commence in half an hour. It looks like Sagna and Vermaelen will be out as well. :wow
Rooney and Utd. are probably laughing their asses off in the dressing room at this very moment.

Barca will have some serious competition for CL this year. There's a reason no team has won the CL in back to back seasons in its current format. That City bandwagon is filling up quick

It's funny how on the promo of Arsenal/ManU game they keep mentioning Arsenal "without Fabregas". He hasn't been there for weeks dude.
But yeah, Utd. is going to rape Arsenal.

This is going to be ugly and pathetic. Arsenal are just holding on by their teeth and it's only been 10 minutes. :depressed

Nice little play by Anderson to set it up. There's really nothing Arsenal can do but soak up a bit of pressure and play the counter attack. And they were playing it very well until that goal imo
