A green lawn at any price

Despite drought, some homeowners consume staggering amounts of water during summer.

Former Spurs star David Robinson's home, billed for 237,000 gallons in June and 175,000 gallons in July, was No. 10 on SAWS' list of the top residential water users. "It's not only wasteful, it's embarrassing," said Robinson who also made the 100 list during the 2009 drought. "Everyone in the city is trying to save water and here I am using 10 times what everyone else is." Robinson, whose house on three acres in the Dominion now is for sale, said he has let his lawn go dormant but most likely his irrigation system is leaking again and he would have it fixed.

This whole water thing is incredibly short sighted and naive.

If they want the home owners to stop using it, stop selling it, problem solved.

his house is for sale?

does that mean just the one house, or is the entire Admiral's Way private gated street for sale?

I like that he gave a quote about his water use. It sounds like it wasn't on purpose, just irresponsible. His grass looks pretty brown

With what David has done for the San Antonio economy over the years I think he should get a pass on this one. As was stated above, it appears like the grass on his property is essentially gone.

He's paying for it, so what's to apologize for?

this shouldn't be a fucking issue anyways, this is the 21st century

Nuclear power + desalinization plants = Win

"most likely his irrigation system is leaking again and he would have it fixed."

does any of his people look at his water bills? This seems to be his typical water bill, not over-consumption of one month due to leaks.

WHO CARES if his wasting water as long his paying the usual rate like everyone is...

if you wanna complain, complain about the big industrials who waste water like no tommarow, but pay a different rate compared to the normal citizen house owner...

"nice job SAWS with releasing a list of top 10 residential users to embarrass people"

yep, name and shame, and why not? Water is becoming rapidly Blue Gold, even if it's now priced like gold, yet. A nother natural resource being depleted to exhaustion, eg, Ogalllala aquifer.

"WHO CARES if his wasting water"

We should all care, because water is life and running out esp in the desert and semi-desert Southwest USA (San Antonio to San Diego).

SAWS is now buying up water all over central and south Texas, and litigating with LCRA, because SAWS knoed we're gonna be in deep shit with water.

personally i can't stand when we report a leak to SAWS and we have to beg them to fix it like 3 days later..

but they'll happily charge the mess out of us because of what some meter said.. they can be crooks sometimes

It looks like the guy has one of the 10 biggest lawns ergo his water usage is just average. Everything in context.:fishing

Fly into El Paso on Southwest and see no green yards. All brown. Quite amazing the first time.

Anyway. Clean, sufficient water isn't a basic human right, anyway. :)

Sean Elliott now up to #2 on this list.

At #3 is the home now owned by University Federal Credit Union from the foreclosure on Bruce Bowen's house.

Also in the Top 100: Valerie Robinson (maybe they got smart and put it in her name instead of David's) and Peter Holt.
