I'd say League of Legends is a pretty good game considering a few of my friends addiction to it over the past fucking 8 month or so. Seriously, it's pretty much taken over their lives. And whenever we all have a lan party that shit will completely take over the connection. WoW never had that problem

I'm not going to do the same thing everyone else has done/will do and jokingly recommend an 80s classic.

But if I did, it would be Math Blaster.

Deus Ex (1999)
Incredibly immersive, intelligent sci-fi/action/drama but also has a sense of humor. Conspiracy driven plot...fantastic music score....Three possible endings based on your choices and how you play the game. Direct action or stealth. FPS
PC Game of the year in '99
One of the best games i've ever played.

I'm ignoring the OP's PC constraints because I didn't want to start a new thread. Portal 2 is awesome.

Heroes of Might and Magic III (Complete).
One of the best time-killer games out there. Turn-based, and can be played with up to 8 players, locally and over a LAN.

Its all 2D sprites, so your system will be perfect to run it.

I'm looking for something to play after Portal 2 on my laptop. We've got other video game systems at the house so I'm not really looking for a shoot em up or action platform. Something that requires some thought and has a decent story line. I've heard the Bioshocks are very good. Anybody?

I'd still recommend Heroes 3.

Thanks. Not exactly what I was thinking of but looks interesting. But there seem to be a lot of issues playing it on Windows 7. I want to avoid anything that I'm going to have to re-configure files on my computer. Looking for something that I can just put in and play. I guess I'm really looking for something similar to Portal 2.

Frozen Synapse (http://www.frozensynapse.com/)

Just bought the game yesterday and I think I will probably play it damn near forever, or at least until Synapse 2 comes out.

Incredible game.

That looks really cool. I probably won't do the multiplayer. How is it for singler player? Still worth it?

Ive played it for all of one day, but regardless...

Single player has a campaign, so far, really really good.

But that isnt what sells it. Its the Skirmish mode. Every map is procedurally generated, so you will never play the same map twice. Endless strategy and tactics, what with the 4 different unit types (that I know of) and their strengths and weaknesses.

Even in the Campaign, lets say youre on a mission and you fuck up (very, very easy to do). When you restart the mission/map, its a completely different layout, so none of your moves in the prior session even apply.

Its quite hard and I love it.

Sorry...is the Skirmish mode multiplayer? Or just a different single player mode other than campaign? I read the write up on GameSpot but it really talks up the multiplayer mode. Have you only been playing as single player so far?

No.

Yes. Think Bots from Unreal Tournament.

Yes, only single player. You will get hundreds of nondescript MP invites during your single player experience, but they are no big deal at all.

Really, you should download the demo from Steam and try it out. Its awesome, if youre into tactics.

Tip: Play the opposing side's (red guys) moves. Try to account for every possible movement of the enemy and position your soldiers accordingly, even if its strictly a defensive position. Learn to use "Continue on Sight" and "Engage on Sight" effectively. Remember, if you want your soldier to move quickly from one position to another, you must "Cancel Aim" as a first step.

Thanks for all the info. I'm almost done with Portal and I think I'll check this out. Looks like a game I could really get into and. For $25, seems like lot of experience. Plus an extra copy.
