First fight announcement:
Two exciting featherweight prospects, Dustin Poirier and Pablo Garza, have verbally agreed to fight each other on November 12.

Garza is coming off of two spectacular UFC finishes -- one flying-knee KO and a flying triangle submission. Poirier is looking to stay undefeated in the UFC with his aggressive slugging style that earned him wins at UFC 125 (against then-top contender Josh Grispi) and UFC 131 as well as a 53-second KO in the WEC.

Brock says he is healthy and getting ready to roll

On the same day of this announcement this might not be a coincidence

http://espn.go.com/blog/MMA/post/_/id/3803/healthy-lesnar-determined-to-regain-ufc-title

“Recently, I went under the knife and had surgery for my diverticulitis,” Lesnar said. “I feel like a new man. I feel great, healthy [and] strong.

“I feel like I used to feel.”

“Right now, [it’s] one day at a time for me,” Lesnar said. “I still believe there’s a bright future in the UFC for me. My health is 100 percent; I feel great. My motivation is there and I want to get on the map again. I want to become the UFC heavyweight champion again and I believe I will do that.”

UFC might be the biggest sports organization in States.

They have way better system then other major USA sports.

They pay directly and they pay for performance.

Looking at mma now I'm kinda losing a 'being-out-of-ordinary-and not-well-known-wow-sports-fan" status
mma will became common and everybody will know what it is.
% yrs ago nobody knew nothing about the sport.
In Poland Pudzianowski changed it and most people know that there is some kind of battle sport.

5 yrs from now UFC will be an NBA
in a meaning NBA= best basketball; UFC= best mma

UFC do not have 1992 Olympics though

That would be a good idea, Brock only has a couple of fights left in him and that would make the UFC the most money.

90% of the HW's in the UFC right now are hoping their phone does not ring with Joe Silva on the other end offering them Brock.. Brock is gonna be rusty but he is also gonna be healthy and angry as fuck.. He's coming off a loss and will be looking to make a serious statement.. He was pissed off when he was champ.. Someone is gonna get a UFC 100 Mir like ass kicking from him in the next few months..

If he can stay healthy and motivated he could have a lot more fights left in him.. He's 34 but only has 7 fights, it's all about how much longer he wants to fight..

Plus, I know some like to hate on Brock but he still has an excellent wrestling background to fall back on, he isn't just some gimmick striker who made it into the UFC. With his size/speed he can be a monster still, just needs some work on his striking stance, and how to take a punch.

Well maybe if he would let his training partners actually punch him in the face he might learn to take a punch better in live fight. Until then hes gonna get knocked the fuck out by the top heavyweights.

What top HW's can stop his wrestling and viscious GNP?

Not Mir
Not
Nelson, Kongo, CC, Schaub, Nog, or Overeem.. Reem has lousy wrestling..

Cain and maybe JDS..

I dont think he can beat JDS. I still think if Carwin can work on his cardio he could beat his ass too. I think he could beat reem, but I don't think it would be easy and it could go either way. He's a great athlete and I wish him the best with his recovery but I think he is overated.

Carwin is done.. He looked old and shot against JDS.. Too many injuries for him.. A healthy Brock beats really anyone i think at HW except for Cain and JDS.. We'll have to see how JDS does against Cain..

FOX airs "UFC Primetime" on Oct. 30 in lead-up to first UFC on FOX event

The UFC will makes its official FOX debut on Oct. 30.

That's when the UFC's new network-television partner airs "UFC Primetime," a one-hour special that previews the organization's first UFC on FOX event, which is set for Nov. 12.

The special airs either immediately before or after the NFL on FOX game assigned to your given market that day.

No headliner has been announced for the landmark Nov. 12 event, which is expected to take place at Anaheim, Calif.'s Honda Center.

When pressed for a possible main event for the two-fight, one-hour event special, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he's still working on the lineup. However, he's ruled out middleweight champ Anderson Silva, who defeated Yushin Okami this past weekend at UFC 134, as a possibility.

Currently, the only fight announced for the show is featherweight Pablo Garza (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Dustin Poirer (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC).

"UFC Primetime" usually is a three-part weekly series that airs on Spike TV. However, given the UFC's new seven-year deal with FOX (and FX and FUEL TV), and given the need to introduce the UFC's fighting brand to new viewers, "Primetime" will be scaled down to a one-hour special for the Oct. 30 broadcast.

The special likely will feature the headliners and co-headliners of the card, which marks the UFC's debut on major network TV. The two-fight event broadcast concludes before the night's HBO broadcast of boxers Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez. (Future UFC on FOX events are expected to run two or three hours.)

UFC on FOX 1 press conference, ticket sales rescheduled

The public is still invited to Los Angeles' W Hotel Hollywood for a press conference to kick off tickets sales for November's "UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos" event, but the date has been shifted.

UFC officials recently announced the presser will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 20, instead of the originally scheduled date of Sept. 15.

Additionally, on-sale dates for tickets have been delayed one week and now go on sale to the general public on Friday, Sept. 24, though pre-sale opportunities begin on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Tickets range from $44 to $354.

UFC president Dana White is expected to attend the press conference, as are main-event competitors Cain Velasquez (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Junior Dos Santos (13-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC).

Well history will be made this weekend; first UFC on Fox card; pick your 5 best for predictions:

MAIN CARD (FOX)

Champ Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos (for heavyweight title)
- This may switch, keep going back and forth; long lay off and recovering from shoulder injury are keeping me from picking Cain right now.

PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook and FOX.com)

Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson
- Ben's wrestling and ability to withstand submissions give him the edge.

Pablo Garza vs. Dustin Poirier
- Go Scarecrow

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto vs. Darren Uyenoyama

Matt Lucas vs. Aaron Rosa
- Going with the kid from SA; put up a good fight against Joey Beltran in his UFC debut.

I don't know what the UFC's expectations are for this ratings wise. From what i can tell Fox has just done an average job promoting this and neither JDS or Cain are big draws. Ratings might be somewhat dissapointing... It's huge this be a great competitive fight..

MAIN CARD (FOX)

Champ Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos (for heavyweight title)

The long layoff has me going with JDS here. I also think that JDS is every bit as talented as Cain and is yet to show us all his skills. His wrestling looked great against Shane and his striking is better. I think his game-plan will be brawl and sprawl pressure on Cain and try to get him out of there in the first 2 rds. Cain never ever tires and if this gets past round 2 i bet Cain wins the fight with his wrestling especially in the 4th and 5th. But i'll take JDS TKO Rd 2..

PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook and FOX.com)

Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson

Ben is on the fast track to the LW title. Edgar is next.

Pablo Garza vs. Dustin Poirier
- Go Scarecrow

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto vs. Darren Uyenoyama

Matt Lucas vs. Aaron Rosa- Going with the kid from SA; put up a good fight against Joey Beltran in his UFC debut.

Really surprised at how awful the presentation was, how rushed it felt and the filler that took up 55 minutes of TV time. I feel like the mainstream gloss didn't bring in mainsteam fans like intended, but we'll see. I hope Dana has some more control in the future, or at least doesn't model the PPV after Ufc on Fox - that would fucking suck.

So obvious that Cain is still having some kind of shoulder issue, there's no other excuse for why he actually tried to exchange with Junior and looked so tentative. Perfect shot to the ear, surprised he didn't pancake into unconsciousness. It was good to see Junior's speech after tho, emotional stuff and I hope he fights Overeem next.

Ben Henderson woooooooooo!!!

Ya Cain didn't look right, I feel sorry for whoever gets him next. I don't see anyone beating junior for a while.

I dont think you can make injury excuse for getting caught like that.. obviously Cain probly was rusty.. but surely in sparring training they were emphasising dont stay in the pocket.. get in throw your combination an then get out and look for a takedown.

Cain was standing about a foot in front of JDS all squared up... Junior threw a simply overhand right and Cain was easily in range.

Cain will be back.. maybe put him in against Carwin.. the winner of that fights against the loser of Lesnar and Reem.

My thoughts on tonight's abortion that was, "The UFC on FOX":

From the second the show went on the air, it was doomed. "This might be the most exciting... blah, blah, blah... Viewer discretion is advised.". Are you shitting me? How gay was that? Next thing we get to see is some high school graphics class' mish-mash of what events FOX sports covers; who gives a flying fuck about the Daytona 500, PAC 10 championship, etc. What next? I'll be fucking damned if the intro music for The NFL on FOX didn't start up. You're telling me that the UFC, with its millions and millions of dollars, couldn't figure out some new/exciting intro music? It's almost like they forgot all about it until this morning and were like, "Fuck, we need music for this thing? Hurry, grab the first thing laying on the pile!". Did anyone else notice the pure lack of substance with the whole intro, the monotone announcer trying SO hard to make it sound like a suspense/horror movie trailer, and the unenthusiastic announcer attempting to hype up the fight for the night? I was beside myself with how piss-poorly the first 20 minutes of the whole show was done.

The thing to remember is that the UFC and FOX were trying to grab the viewership of NEW fans, people who haven't given it a shot, and/or people who think it sucks -- i.e. LakaLuva, and the rest of the dirty fence jumping Mexicant's like him. So why, oh WHY, would you put BROCK FUCKING LESNER in the broadcast booth? So the haters of the world and the mid-interest guys could say, "Holy shit, isn't that the WWF guy? What kind of fake ass horse shit is this?" Not to mention the assertions that Brock was going to get to face the champion again -- after one fight. (that he's going to get his ass kicked in) I just can't fucking believe what a train wreck this whole thing was. Un-fucking-believable.

FINALLY, they put Rogan and Goldy on, and no shit, things got back on track and holy shit if the day wasn't saved. But seriously, if you're trying to win new fans in your own country, and your country's hot topic is all of the illegals coming up from Mexico, then WHY THE FUCK would you keep on showing fans waving their bullshit Mexican flags? Just to piss us off? It worked. And then we get to see Brown Pride come out to fucking Salsa Music, or whatever the shit that was? Give me strength. What a fucking travesty.

HORRIBLE.

But at least that racist fuck lost. Brown Pride... lol. WMP, bitch.

you beat me to it. But I don't think I could've articulated it as well.

I especially rolled my eyes to the fucking goofy ass intro music. Only thing worse for me was seeing the "YES WE CAN!" signs and the Mexican flags all over the place. What exactly are you proud of? That EVERY fucking citizen wants to get the fuck out of that shithole that's represented by that flag?

IT actually serves the UFC right this happened. They put all their hopes into one fight. All along this should have been an event. 5 card fight solid all the way around like they usually do..

And the ratings are a dissapointment supposedly only about 4.6 million..

They tried to market this like a boxing fight. That's strange since their business model has always been the opposite of boxing. Their motto has always been, "We give you several good fights not just one like boxing"

Dana was pissed at the post fight on Fox talking about how Cain's game-plan was terrible and this and that. I don't know if it was the UFC or Fox that wanted this to be just the HW title fight, but it was a bad error that didn't work out..

Now that I've had time to think about the event through a "mainstream" perspective, I agree with Trout on a number of issues.

1) HW is the worst division to show off MMA and what makes it different because the fight either becomes a grapplefuck or instant KO - WW and LW would probably have been best.
2) Tons of Mexican flags, and Fox is typically Nascar and Are you smarter than a 5th grader crowd...and Cain's Brown Pride tattoo probably scared them off or made them hate the UFC.
3) Dana shitting on Cain was not cool.

Watching the entrance for Pacman and Marquez, that felt like a spectacle, an event to be experienced. UFC on Fox? Not so much. Even after all the hype, Kimbo is still the ratings king of primetime MMA. :downspin:

I had no idea it was a one fight event until I started watching last night. I think Fox really blew it with that idea. Fortunately I was able to watch some prelims online, but it would have been much better if the prelims were part of the event broadcast.

The show, which took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., was highest-rated in the UFC’s hometown of Las Vegas, where it earned a 5.3/9. Other successful local markets included Dallas (5.1/10), Phoenix (5.1/9) and San Antonio (5.1/8).

You think Dana will see this and say it's time to give Cain a fight in the Alamo City? It's not Mexico, but we've got Mexican food!

Wrong

You want to persuade new audience to watch the mma, so IMO the best way to promote is to give the HW bout because everybody relates to it as the toughest and well kings weight.
And esp. with those two fighters there was no way it would appear a boring fight.

Speaking of the fight. I'm still in shock cause I was waiting for that fight really bad. I was rooting for Cain and after the fight I felt like somebody stole something from me. The feeling- I should be pissed but 'oh well'. Shit happens.
Cain is better then that. He likes to be in the pocket but damn, was he not aware of the overhand? He is lacking defense. He must improve on it.
He was not 100% himself

BEn vs Clay - a fantastic fight. You could not expect more from it!
Benson proved he is the best. I wonder who will impose his will in a title fight. It's a key fighting against a guy like Frankie Edgar.

Attract new audience to a fight promotion? Use HW. Attract them to MMA? Use WW or LW. We all thought the fight would be awesome, I felt robbed too, but it wasn't and someone in the UFC brain trust should have fought for at least two matches instead of filling the show with filler that no casual fan gives a fuck about. Dana going off at the presser showed how mad he was at the situation, he knows it sucked. :depressed

What was on the show exactly?

There was no hint about the rest of the card?

I was watching the fights on FB - then I went to look at the tv 3am - the shows should begin. As I turned it on it was the last secs of the brock vs cain fight and then they showed the LW eliminator fight Clay vs Benson. So I watched that fight twice.
Then it was the main event ..

And polish commentary sucks. They were almost bitching about the fight and that the win looked too easy. That Brock needed to be demolished loosing that title. Cain lost just like that... etc.

Anyway the card was good and they caught some audience and they will start next year with fox.
And Dana will make sure the next FOX event will be better promoted.

Oh yea, I forgot that you guys got a different version in the international market. No talk of the previous fights, nothing except stuff that was already shown about Cain and JDS before...like 50 minutes of that, 5 minutes of walkout, and then 5 minutes of ring action. It was crap, hope they learned from it. :(
