I played with one of mine today. I will say this it's a far cry from an Ipad 2. Flash is nice although it stutters a bit sometimes.

Not too many apps id say under 1000 which pales in comparison to both Android Market and Apple app store. No way to take photos with the front facing camera (unless you buy an app) that front facing cam is only for Skype video chat and its a 1.3 mp sensor.

It would be great for a kid but I feel great about buying the Ipad 2 its much nicer, snappier, colors are brighter on ipad as well. However sometimes the page loading on the touchpad is faster for websites. The speakers on the touchpad are pretty nice there's two of them and its got Beats by Dre technology or whatever the fuck that is sounds nice.

Back of case is black plastic and finger print magnet, noticeably heavier than ipad 2.

I stopped into a BB tonight and the guy said that there are likely still some at the warehouse and the best bet is to come back on tuesday morning first thing and check it out. My hp.com order finally says processing, so I think I will be able to get one...... Kmart's website has them at full price if you want to pick it up and work on pricematch. I would say your chances are pretty good considering sears has them for 149/99 (sold out). You could buy it, try the price match and if after a couple of days it doesn't work, then return it.

It was from the order I was able to get through on hp.com last night, though there was some doubt considering they didn't charge my card, and I was in "order being verified" status for 26 hours. Now the status changed, and my card was charged...... So I feel pretty good about my chances now.

My only complaint was that apps opened sloooooowly, but after doing just the first part of this (with the dialer pad), apps take about 1/4th the time to load. There are other speed enancements that I haven't tried in that article, but suffice to say the first (easy) part is more than enough.

If you want to pay the original list price, maybe. There are all kinds of places out there still offering it for $499-$599.

You know, given the number of units selling for around $300 on eBay, etc. you wonder what would have happened if HP in their infinite wisdom had released this at $299 instead of $499. OK, they would have lost money, but not as much as the idiots are losing doing what they just did, and they could have built a critical mass to attract app developers and then come out with a much better follow-on product. WebOS is pretty cool, but the hardware is strictly 2009.

A friend works at HP and they are livid because the employees didn't get a chance at any of these bargain units. Apparently the company offered them some sort of shit deal when they first came out, and I bet they don't give them any kind of rebate now.

Manny this was made to compete with an ipad and at a similar price point originally. They failed hard. Yes i did the speed tweek but it still has lag especially when reopening a card or tab there is 3 4 5 seconds of hesitation before the newly opened card "wakes up" I did the speed tweek as well. It does make it a bit snappier upon opening the card but theres still some hesitation. Touch screen is nowhere near as accurate. I could go on and on about features missing that the ipad has. For what its being sold for now its a no brainer but my point was this was supposed to give the ipad a run for its money (if thats possible) and is nowhere near as good aside from playing flash, and the card multitasking which i found refreshing.

That being said ive sold all 5 of mine for a profit still have one more coming.

It's similar to an iPad. There aren't NEARLY as many apps; the question is now with there suddenly being a million of them out there, will some devs be more interested in porting existing ones? Probably a few more but not most.

It's thicker than the iPad 2, only has a front-facing camera, overall slower, but there are speedup tips that help somewhat; HP has promised a new performance release of WebOS and continued support of the OS itself. It supports Flash and has true multitasking. The only version is wifi; no 3G (though HP's web site STILL talks about a coming AT&T 4G version, not bloody likely now).

If what you want to do is surf, play music (has BEATS audio), check email it's a great deal at $99. If you want it to do everything an iPad can do, it's not. There is an Android port in the works, status/likelihood of success unknown.

Forgot to mention that Amazon VOD works with it as well. Basically all flash video that is not silverlight seems to work just fine. Amazon VOD seems to have a lot of Netflix titles so if you're a Prime member then its a good resource for the touchpad.

You can't run MS office on there. At the moment the only document editing has to be done through Google Docs and I'm not sure how well it works. Some of the apps need to be downloaded but they don't take long. Facebook and the Kindle App come to mind. Kindle app has a lot of good free books so that is a pretty good deal.

There's not many apps available and I've never used an iPad for more than a few minutes but most of the same things should work in the same intuitive manner. At the moment due to the lack of app catalog and doubt for the future of the OS, the tablet will be fairly limited. The email program is OK, the browser is below average, and there aren't THAT many good apps but its far from useless. Use it to browse the web pretty well, use it as an ereader, use it for email, and use it for social networking. Hell, use it to play some movies (there is apparently a good app for media playing but it does cost like 7 or 8 bucks).

I'm hoping for the Android port to come through because Android - to me anyway - just seems 10x better than WebOS and the app catalog is of course much better.

Nevermind, it looks like I figured it out. It is definitely not intuitive. When I did the drag and drop the first time, it was in the file like I said, but not locatable on my pad once unplugged. It looks like it sent it somewhere where I couldn't access it, so I had to move it to a folder I knew where it was (I choose wallpapers) and it was in there.

I am having trouble moving it out of there and into a folder I created called "movies" though. I am finding it difficult to move things like that around or to delete items.


Edit: I don't have it figured out. I see the poster art for the movies and it says the run time, but when I go to play it, it says "0:00" for the run time and there is nothing. Sigh.

Somewhat. Where did that file come from? If it was purchased through iTunes then it will only play in certain places because it likely has DRM which is file protection that prevents the file from being copied and played everywhere.

I am not trying to be mean or anything here, but honestly of all the people here, I probably have had the TP the longest (saturday morning). I state this because many of these problems that you are having could probably be easily fixed, or figured out by going to precentral.net where there are true experts. I have been hanging out there a lot lately (as well as the xda-developers "HP touchpad" forum) to learn from them. It seems that WebOS users are extremely helpful and friendly. I would even argue that they are excited to teach you about their OS of choice. You may receive much more prompt and complete support there.

As I have been perusing the precentral forums I remember reading about a media player that plays every (or almost every) single codec. cant remember what it is called though. Definitely go to that first link I gave you though, you can speed up your TP pretty freakin much.

I will be quite honest, the first change I made was responsible for the biggest performance increase. It was the one where I set the TP to minimal logging by typing ##LOGS# into the dialer and adjusting the logging preferences.

Not to say that the other patches and the OC make no difference, but they speed it up to a lesser degree.

Drac: A few things I'm not clear on from reading that and doing the fixes:

1) Do you always keep the "Developer Mode" on, even after you're done with the fixes?

2) Do you have to do anything after installing the patches or if you did the little re-starts, should you be good to go, because I know that browsing history one doesn't seem to be working because it's continuing to save my searches.

Edit: I figured out the private browsing. You have to click on the web drop down once it launches and you can enable it. Turns the search bar red. I'm still not sure about the other fixes though (do I have to do anything for any other ones bc after reading their features, I don't see anything I have to do).
