So I need a car for college which starts tomo IMO. Looking for a car to buy this week. I was looking around at the used car lots and I found a Mazda rx8 2005-2009 for pretty cheap. My budget is 10-15k

Is this a good car tho? Not really looking for haulin a lot of shit around so I went the route of a smaller car. Fun to drive, like the suicide door and 6 speed manual.

Never bought a car before tho, checked the blue book value and it seemed fair.

lol do you have money for fuel for that rx8?

rotary engines cost alot to maintained and fix.....

nice car but drinks alot of petrol...

Cool car. Shit gas mileage, though, so if there's any kinda commute to school and back for you (assuming you're still in the D/FW area), you're gonna be bent over regularly at the pump (no pun intended) each week.

Check how much car insurance is gonna run you. Under 25 you're gonna have to pay out the nose, and if you're not paying cash you're gonna have to have comprehensive, collision, and liability insurance. Add to that the sports car premium - even if you have a clean record it's gonna cost you a fortune. If you have tickets or accidents on your rec, it'll be even worse.

tbh thats what i heard, and the college im going to is literally 5 min away. id still do a lot of city driving tho and maybe ill look for something more fuel efficient.

it was really nice though fwiw

Lincoln

im getting a quote right now, it is considered a 4 door car because of the back suicide doors so maybe that'll drop the price down. i do have one accident on my record though so im prob fucked

i'd get the most fuel efficient & cheapest ride you can find that you can deal with for the next 5 yrs or so. not worth the trouble to get all fancy when you're just going to be going to school and working your ass off to get out of school.

It's hard to pass up something sporty once you start thinking about it non-stop, however do some research on the cars you want and see what their major issues are. There are generally forums for each engine type (know the engine) where you will see the same few issues being discussed over and over.

Whatever you decide, have it looked at by a good auto mechanic before you buy. It would suck to be 15K into a used car only to have a blown head gasket a month later.

Since your limit is so high, consider a new Kia or something like that (warranty).

one of the milfs on this site drives a evo10 :(

imo get an evo8 and above

rx8 is nice, you get chicks easy...then again whats its like to sit idle while the rotary engine continues to drink :(

If I were you I'd go with something like a 2007 Honda Accord. Nice cars, reliable and easy to maintain.

I know it's hard when you get fixated and excited, but cars are depreciating assets and terrible wastes of money. They are extremely useful obviously, but you have to be smart. Unless you have enough money not to care, you should buy practical and save money.

05-07 Acura TL
07+ Honda Accord or Civic

Even leasing is a great option if you can swing the monthly. The car will be under warranty and brand new. You can lease a new Jetta for $179 a month for 36 months with $2199 due at signing.

Buying a new Jetta is prob 17,800 after ttl as well.

Not much of a truck guy tbh, and it was actually my fam that brought up the rx8 lol. I've been doin research and it is a gas and oil killer just like y'all said. Roughly 58$ for a tank with today's gas prices

May look at something more economical but whatever I'm getting, it's coming tomorrow tbh

Ok, I'll bite (no homo).

Your comments about living only for the day and not planning for the future are asinine (inane, absurd, foolish). 15 years goes by in a heartbeat. Especially if the OP ever decides to get married and have kids. You would have him spend all his money on a flashy impractical car just so he can live life to the fullest today?? Not that you are even real, but if you could go back in time and plan ahead, wouldn't you take that opportunity so you could be something other than a chronically masterbating, lonely, bull dyke, prison guard?? Fuck, I'd go back in time just so I could tell you what an asshole you were gong to be if you didn't change things.

This not planning for the future mentality is a giant part of why this country is so fucked right now.

You are stupid and lack reading comprehension skills. Your first sentence is garbage about living for the day and not planning for the future....stupid assumption on your part. Show me where I specifically said that you should NOT plan for the future? Show me if you are not a troll.

Fact is you can plan all you want and you can live five more minutes or you can live 50 extra years...NO ONE KNOWS.

The statement about waiting to enjoy life 15 years from now is what is wrong with this planet...if everyone is busy living in the future--who the fuck is living now?

If we are so worried about tomorrow and finding life on other planets---who the fuck is living LIFE NOW? Why the fuck do we need to find life in another planet if we can't stop destroying this one?

You can very well live life to the fullest and if you are graced with longevity...then that will also be lived fully in that moment.

If someone here thinks a cool car or any other toys are necessary to "live life to the fullest"...then there is a lot more wrong than which toy to buy.

You are a dumb deluded fuck if you can't enjoy life to the fullest WITHOUT sabotaging your future.

Forget the flashy cars! Yeah, the comfort and driving experience is noticeable but unless you DIY the parts and maintenance, the ownership costs will get you.

I drive a Mercedes C230 and a Lexus IS right now and oil change alone is already $180-210 every 5k miles. Tune up (service b) is $600 every 15k miles, Brake pads and rotors will cost $700 in parts + $450-600 labor at around 25k miles. Parts are 2-3 times more expensive and labor is $95/hour.
Premium gas too, the merc goes 27mpg, lexus has 22 mpg mixed driving.

Im 30, clean driving record, parks in a gated community, with college grad and bundle discounts; Insurance for the merc is $120/mo; insurance for the lexus is $135/mo.

Id just get a Ford focus or an Accord.

You do know that you can get service somewhere besides the dealer, right?

Once the Mercedes and Lexus complimentary services run out...nothing is stopping you from finding cheaper service places...after all the Lexus is a Toyota engine and will be fine with a generic oil change...and the Mercedes engines have been around forever and everyone has parts and everyone can do the required services for a fraction of what you are paying. So-called luxury carmakers are capitalizing on the nameplate...but an engine won't know the difference if Joe the local monkey-wrench is doing the service.

Unless, you just like paying as much as possible.

I drive an '06 RX330, 50K miles, rotors are fine. Just changed the front brake pads ($50 for the whole front kit from lexuspartseast.com), and rebuilt one of the calipers ($40 for the kit from same place). All Toyota original parts.

Oil change *at the dealer* was $70, including free car wash.

Im asian, of course I DIY almost everything.
Haven't replaced the lexus brakes yet since I only have 6k miles on it. I will get parts from the suggestions of the forum members at club lexus since forums know where the cheaper parts are.

I did the brakes for the merc and the cross drilled rotors plus ceramic brake pads and brake sensors still cost me $600 including the tools used for the job vs probably $200 for the hondas/toyotas.

* My point here is even entry level "flashy" cars will cost big money specially if you are still in college. It's just not worth it to spend this much for a car when you are still in debt.

Merc will rip you off, but they'll last you. I still have an '88 300E with 152,000 miles on it that refuses to die. It's just not worth putting money into it for even basic stuff at this point.

Lexus uses mostly Toyota parts, so it is cheaper. Most of my RX330 parts are the same as the Highlanders (except for the luxury stuff).

tbh, sometimes paying a little more for reliability is worth it. That's why I think his Corolla pickup is a sound decision.

They dont build tank-like cars anymore like they used to. Probably because its also harder to make a machine with hundreds of electronics to be as reliable as the simpler older models.

But the newer models that just came out, the ones with the led lights on the lower bumpers, the engineers this time made sure merc reliability will be recognized again.

Agree with that and one other reason why I didn't go back to them.

That said, it's tough to build heavy cars like that anymore with the requirements in gas mileage, etc.

I have to keep stopping myself from leasing a nice sports car that I Really shouldn't waste money on. I know it's stupid and vain, but honestly, I'm 23, making decent money, in 2-4 years it will be time to settle down and start a family, so why not enjoy life to the fullest right now?

Anyway know any good deals on nice BMW's? I really know jack shit about cars so I need advice tbh.

this site helped me pick out a car. check it out:

So I need a car for college which starts tomo IMO. Looking for a car to buy this week. I was looking around at the used car lots and I found a Mazda rx8 2005-2009 for pretty cheap. My budget is 10-15k

Is this a good car tho? Not really looking for haulin a lot of shit around so I went the route of a smaller car. Fun to drive, like the suicide door and 6 speed manual.

Never bought a car before tho, checked the blue book value and it seemed fair.

Go for something small, cheap and reliable. Always consider the cost of ownership, as others have pointed out. Insurance, gas, maintenance, start to add up.

Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus come immediately to mind, or even the compact versions of those cars, the Yaris and Fiesta, which are new cars within your stated budget.

That said, if all you are doing is some city driving, get something a bit older.

Always count on gas never getting much cheaper than it is now, and probably getting a good deal more expensive in the next 5 years. Remember that we are competing with tens of thousands of new drivers every week for the same gallon of gasoline/oil, who are buying their first cars, and that is running up demand at a fast pace.

Nice choice sons. Btw I think the car actually looks good. It's not amazing but much cooler than they used to be.

Leasing is a bad idea.

That's not true.

Ya, early corollas looked like shit and while the 2010 isn't anything flashy, it looks up to date with the world
