My mom just called me and she was hysterical...She lives in Ocean City, MD on the Eastern Shore--a good 150 miles away from DC.

Isn't this the same place that's going to get hit with Hurricane Irene? Sucks for them.

Check that...as far south as Atlanta. Epicenter was 50 miles north of Richmond

That would piss me off...I just missed out on an earthquake, could use a hurricane

Just got off the phone with my daughter in Virginia. She and her boys were out back-to-school shopping when it hit, and she's not sure if she can get home, since bridges are closed in her area for at least a while for inspection. She lives just a couple of miles from the Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel.

I drove over that 3 weeks ago...can't imagine how surreal that would've been to drive on/through that during the EQ:wow

If you are going to carry Che Guevara's avatar you need to act a little tougher.

Che would brace his home and stop the shaking with his bare hands, then take a big steaming dump using Chuck as toilet paper. Chuck Norris after being executed for treason of course.

How long before Pat Robertson informs us that this is because America elected a black muslim as President?

Pretty stupid idolizing pinChé in any way, shape or form. Unless you're into psychotic people that's an advocator of genocide. But hey, his grill makes a nice shirt :jack

5.9 isn't a small quake at all. You really notice them about 4.0 and higher. 6.5 or so is where they can start doing serious damage.

I'm Sorry, I meant Ronald Reagan, someone who should be idolized for funding and militarizing Sadaam Hussein and Osama Bin-Laden with Maktab_al-Khidamat (early AL-qaeda). Otherwise we'd have little to fight against.

Idk we have been having some really weird weather occurences. We had a record snowstorm two years ago that pretty much buried us for a month, record heat, and now a 6.0 earthquake. It was pretty freaky. I don't live that far from the airport and we thought a plane had crashed or something. Just got off the phone with my Aunt and she said they felt it shake in South Carolina.

Yep, to a 5.8:

Technically there was a 5.8 quake along the entire coast, not just in D.C. I felt it here in VA but as others have pointed out, it's been felt from S.C. all the fuck the way up to Nova Scotia.

I'm just waiting for Obama to name the geological formation that caused the quake "Bush's Fault".

A friend of mine who works at the Library of Congress said that it was obvious to him it was an earthquake (he's from California), but that most of the chaos was from everyone being positive it was a terrorist attack.

given that most of the media and goverment are based on the east coast and this was the biggest quake in 70 years. disagree

I would lay down on the earth and make it stop if an earthquake bothered us during a pic nic.
